hey

at the present moment the lightest covering material i have is hdpe plastic from fruit and veggy bags at the grocery store.

what is the best glue for this stuff?
out of these glues which is the best?
ambroid
elmers glue all white glue or school glue
elmers wood glue
ca normal
skin guard krazy glue ca
elmers stix all
hold the foam foam glue

so far i have used white glue and water 50/50
this does ok but come loose after retrieving the model from a tree

and also used white glue, water and stix all
this holds better it didnt come loose from tree retrieval
i dont know how much stix all was in the mix cause water is not much of a solvent for stix all

will i really be able to tell much of a duration difference if i cover my peanuts with walmart tissue instead of japanese tissue?

can i cover my peanuts with this hdpe plastic?

Hi Billy,

The only model I covered with plastic from a bag was the Insect (a rogallo wing). I use UHU glue stick for all of my covering jobs, including tissue, mylar, and Reynolds Wrap.

I use domestic tissue for a lot of my models, and Japanese for the "special" ones. It's kind of silly considering a sheet of Japanese is $1.25 and most of my models use less than one sheet.

To achieve good flying, I think it's just as important to choose your wood carefully, use a minimum of glue, and scrape your prop. Having said that, using Japanese tissue is an easy way to drop a bit of weight.

IMHO, I don't think a clear-plastic covered peanut would look right (except for a Peanut of the Gossamer Condor) :)

I recall that you can use water based contact cement as adhesive for plastic films and it's suppposed to be good at keeping it's grip.

Don't wait for it to dry though. Put the covering on while the CC is still wet so it transfers to the plastic a bit. Then patiently wait for it to dry before trimming.

And you might try cleaning the inside surfaces of the plastic before using it. I'm guessing that there may be some left over product or "release agent" on the bag material from when they were made so they don't stick together....... or maybe not considering how hard it can be to make the darn things open when in the market.... :D

But if you're building peanuts I agree with Bob. Go that extra mile and splurge the extra nickel for the tissue..... cheapy... :D
