What are you guys using as a connector for remote operation?
Also is the mounting platform substantial enough not to fall off in flight or is there additional mounting needed... seems like the base may separate from the camera

Just wanted to let everyone know, this works great in skydiving. the velcro mounting and a little gaffer tape holds it in place like a charm and at 120 mph free fall. Takes great video for training purposes and downloads like a charm to the computer. All my skydiving friends are so hooked they will soon be purchasing. thanks again for a new fun toy.

We haven't seen a cable for the remote activation yet. You could make one up yourself if you like. All you need to do is short pins 1 & 3 to "trigger" the camera. The base holds up well under flight loads. It slides to lock in place on the mount.
Thanks,

Yep, my bad. It's 1 & 3. I heard two outside pins when it first came out and it stuck with me for some reason. Thanks for clearing that up.

Jason,
What's the correct format for the SD cards, FAT or FAT32?

I wish I knew, but I have no idea. I believe it takes care of the formating automatically when it sees the drive.

Seems like they could do better than 1.3 megapix.
I wish they offered a still photo only model that had better resolution. 1.3 is from the 90s.

Has anyone been having problems with Video Endless (UE) mode starting but not turning off? ... it is posing a BIG problem for actually finishing a video capture and writing it to SD (2GB Sandisk Ultra).
Here is the sequence ...
Select UE mode
Press shutter button
Recording start indicated by the running dots
Go fly for 3-5 mins ...
Land and Press the shutter button
The running dots continue ... no way to stop ... have to power off ... doesn't save anything.
Tried to let it run till batt low would auto shut off ... still doesn't save anything.
For short captures < 1.5 mins it seems to works fine. Could it be related to the SD being too slow?
Do I have a faulty unit? ... or do I need a faster performance SD card? I've read that if the SD card is too slow, it will shutoff ... but what about the converse? ... I'm still using the stock firmware and haven't upgraded to the latest yet.
Any inputs would be helpful ...

Maybe someone can advise. I just got a FCO2 and followed the instructions. However, the LCD display shows "WC" and I can not get it to do anything else. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and resolved it? Maybe I got a lemon or it's just good ole pilot error....

Is it doing this when disconnected from your computer and when the power switch is on? It might lock in WC or PC mode if it's connected to your computer.

I ordered one from hobby lobby. At the 2 weeks mark which is crazy long. I could drive to hobby lobby in 8 hours.
They responded with:
Your order was shipped via USPS International Airmail Service on 3/21. That service can take up to 40 days to deliver sometimes, although we don't expect those kind of delays. There's no valid tracking number available for this method of shipping. If you still have not received it after those 40 days have passed, please check with your local post office/customs office to see if they're holding your package for any reason.
I checked with the post office and they cant track anything unless I have a tracking #. They said contact the sender to get tracking. Customs office? No idea how to contact them.
So I contacted hobby lobby again to have them track. No response yet.
So I look at international shipping by usps and basically it appears to be like 10 days max on the estimates.
I feel like I'm being jacked around here.

It displays WC when connected to the computer. It doesnt matter if it is in the on or off position, either way when I plug it into the computer it brings up WC in the display. When it is not connected to the computer it does nothing when switched to the on position. I have tried leaving it connected to the computer (3+ hrs.) to see if it needed to be charged but this has done nothing to change the situation.

So, you don't get anything in the display at all when switching it on without it connected to the computer? If that's the case, it sounds like the internal battery may be defective.

You need to set it up to "PC" mode, turn it off and plug it to the computer. Then only will it be recognized as another drive.

I have loaded up the new firmware from www.flycamone.com
Here is what I have observed so far;
- The "Vd mode" (for recording in dark environment) works see video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vieQN2umL30 It was cloudy/hazy at 6:30AM this morning :)
- Push shutter button on "RY" status twice, does turn video recording orientation 180º
- 99-full/66-2/3full/33/1/3full/CH (My Flycam can only display 66,33,CH, I haven't been able to show 99(fully charged)
- I was shooting a video and the battery ran out and turned off the cam, to my surprise it saved the last video shoot.
thought I'd share this to the community :)

Has anyone tried to update the firmware? I can't seem to do this. As I understand it, you are suppose to press and hold the mode key as you connect to the computer. I get an error when I do this. Then when you try to run the firmware update, I get a message that the camera could not be initialized.
The camera seems to connect fine when you connect in PC mode. The firmware update, however, doesn't work in this mode.
One additional thing I noticed is that the audio seems slightly ahead of the video (reminds me of the old King Kong movies).
Any ideas?

If you are interested in strapping a camera to your plane I highly recommend it. I haven't tried anything else to really do a good comparison but I think it's worth the price.......my .02 cents....

from my raw videos the audio seems spot on. When I decode it that's when the audio gets messed up. VLC player wont even play the raw videos.
My guess is that its an encoding problem.

Then you have the movie player for linux. Crappiest software ever. But the glitch for video looks awesome. Colours are so messed up that it looks something like Alice in Wonderland or something.

I'm using this cam on a 3D Extra 330, and I just wanted to say that it's a smart idea to mount the camera by screws; tight aerobatics at high speeds is too much for velcro! believe me, you don't want this thing to fall off the plane!

Has anybody had trouble with the FCO2 staying on its mounting bracket? There doesn't appear to be anything other than friction holding it on, which can be a real problem for RC helicopters especially. Normally you need to wait a couple of cycles before the lipo battery reaches its peak performance ( I say around 5 cycles with 3hr charging each). Try charging it back and using it a couple more times and hopefully it would give you more recording time. I could record 30 mins straight, but if I make a couple of clips starting and stopping the recording I would say around 15mins only, dunno why but works for me

Here are my notes on how to update the FCO2 with the 3.03 firmware along with the original instructions.
Assuming that you downloaded the "Update-Reinstall 3.03" ZIP file, unzip it and RUN the STK02 2.0 Update and the STK02NU-Update from the extracted "Update-Reinstall 3.03/Update Directory.
Driver installation FCO2 firmware update
1. Install file STKO2N 2.O
NOTE: After you RUN the STK02 2.0 UPDATE, Reboot your computer then continue to the next step.
2. Move to "WC"-Mode of the camera and connect the FCO2 via USB-Cable to your Computer.
3. Download program will be open, you can use to download the FCO2 files.
Close this window!
NOTE: If your system doesn't see the plugged in FCO2 at this time you will get the Driver install program to appear. Click on "NO, not at this time and then click NEXT. Now click on Automatically search for and install the driver.
IF you had to do this step, Reboot your computer with the FCO2 unplugged after the driver was installed, after your computer is up and running, plug in the FCO2 and wait to make sure the the system see the camera then continue with the next step.
4. Start the program STK02NU-Update.
Select:
DRAM: 0X35
DRAM SIZE: 8M
NOTE: once you click the "Update" it does stay highlighted, however the screen will now say Please wait until the Update is done. This means, sit and wait until you see the Update successful screen in step 5.
5. After approx. 90 secs program gives feed back! Update sucessful!
6. Disconnect the FlyCamone and switch it off and on again! (not your PC!)
7. Additional points in the menue are available now.
Here are some other interesting things that I have discovered while testing the FCO2.
1. If you ever experience that you can't stop a recording (dots just keep moving in the LCD display) by using the shutter button. Power off the FCO2 and your recording is lost. Replace your memory card, it is too slow for the camera to operate correctly. NOTE: My FCO2 was ordered with the memory card (FCO rapid rush 4.0 2GB) which now is in the trash. I have replaced it with a Toshiba Secure Digital Card 2GB (SD card). This SD card is Blue in color and I have even used the Toshiba SD 2GB high speed (20meg/sec) which is white in color.
NOTE: A slow memory card will also cause, very short record times, longer record times will result in the "Running moving dots" to ocurr.
2. The record time on mine is 47 minutes (at room temperature) on a full charge, however this is temperature dependent. While flying a model using the FCO2 at 55 degree outside I managed to get over 18 minutes before it dies. With the new update the last video is saved during the camera's power down due to the battery. This is a added plus. I have now a 4.8 2000mah battery pack for it so now the internal battery isn't a factor when it is a little cool to cold outside. Now the total record time is about 1 hour and 10 minutes, This is when the 2GB SD card will be full.
3. My computer will not boot up IF the FCO2 is connected to the USB port. Just unplug the FCO2 and the computer will boot up without any problems. This problem I believe will only happen if you have the 3.03 firmware installed into the FCO2.
I hope this helps All who reads this posts.
Happy Filming your next flight.

Good instructions, you can open the viewer and use the web cam too.
I just got my replacement camera and all is well. I shot vidio for 30 min. and then cut it off. Still had 66 on camera. Did not get hot either. I just had a bad battery. No problem with the firmware either. Can't wait to put it on the plane and go.
Also if you ever get the battery too low to go to pc mode, it will charge on the wc mode too.

After all the headaches that I had, I figured that I would post a note to all explaining what I did to be very happy with my FCO2. My FCO2 now works flawlessly, I did expect it to be that way right out of the box when I recieved it, but stuff happens.
Depending on who or what you read and believe, It does only take about an hour to fully charge the FCO2 via the USB cable. If you check the battery level and it reads only "33", then connect it to your computer to recharge it. NOTE: when I use it with my attached 4.8v 2000mah battery, it will also charge the internal up as well.
I fly the FCO2 on a Sig Kadet Senoir power with a OS .61FX and haven't encountered any problems with it. However the vibration of the engine with the FCO2 frame rate of 25 fps is something that I can work around. The video taken while the FCO2 is mounted on the underside of the left tip of the Elevator on the Kadet sure does give a very good (awesome) view.

I too am now a happy camper, but what a trip.........
Their seems to be some problem with quality control .
The instructions need to be LARGER IN PRINT and clearer.
I think a lot of the problems people are having could be cleared up with better instructions.
I did not know what the base was for.....
No instructions at all for the web cam. I read some replys that they charged and got a few min. to sec. of record time. This is not good. My first charge I got half hour with 66 per cent left. I think they are having many battery problems. It should charge in about 1 1/2 hours, not 3. If you are getting run times below 15 min. send it back. A lipo will improve some in performance, thats some , not a lot.
Their readme file has 2 different load instructions for the firmware.
I load a lot of programs on my computer and I feel I know a lot about my computer, but I was lost for a while.
At least the people at Hobby Lobby did the right thing and sent me a new camera.
I feel sorry for people who get this camera who are not tech. savy.
The sad thing is this is a great camera for the price and has nice features.
Thank goodness for places like this.... otherwise I would be lost.
Thanks for everyones help and I hope I helped somewhat too.

I received my replacement camera today from Hobby Lobby. It's perfect and of course the battery was at fault. Just waiting for the shutter trigger from Jason who is in England. Was mailed this Monday.
I want to thank Hobby Lobby again for quick response to my battery problem.
Three days to my home and sending bad one back to them tomorrow.

Yep, they seem to have a problem with the battery on these.
I love mine now that the battery is taken care of.
Whats this trigger? Have not heard about it. Is flyone makeing them or is this someone who just makes them up for sale?

i tried one of these out in my nitro heli for the first time yesterday. I tried to take 3 videos. and each of them stopped after only about 15 seconds. Not even enough time to get the heli in the air. The card is 2 gigs and pretty much empty. I thought the battery was pretty full. and I took some video in my house afterwords that lasted much longer. can vibration be causing this to turn off? Ill try recharging and firmware upgrade. I hope I can get this problem to go away.

Has anybody had trouble with the FCO2 staying on its mounting bracket? There doesn't appear to be anything other than friction holding it on, which can be a real problem for RC helicopters especially. I have the little thread loop that came with it but there are no instructions on how it's supposed to be used.
Since I never got a response to this question, I thought I'd bump it up. Does anybody have any mounting tips?

The bracket to mount - push down - long end towards lens - then slide up toward lens. You will get a definite snap when it locks in. To take out push down then back. A few people are breaking them either by not doing it correct or they just break.

If you can flash the latest firmware on the flycam to the latest it even tells you how charged the battery is.
WOW! ... now that is SWEET! ... I wish my Canon SD850 did that ... loaded the new firmware and UE shut off problem seems to be fixed now. Gotta play with it a bit more ... wonder if they can add a flip 180 degree option to adjust for mounting upside down. I'm using some simple packing foam and some velcro straps to hold it in place ... Have to use VirtualDub filters to flip it 180 degrees with no strange optical issues shooting upside down. A definite improvement over the FCOv1.

I have the "B" model. It can power off from the receiver OR you can hook up a seperate 5V battery. In my test is used the receiver for power.
Makes it a joy to use. The guy in England makes them as a hobby more or less but they do work.

Yesterday I rigged up a mount on my ZAGI, only electric plane I own. I'm amazed at the quality of the stills and video. For the money, size and don't forget the shutter interface which really works great it is a fantastic toy. Well OK not a toy, yes it is<G>.
Seriously I was in commerical photography 40 years so I'm really impressed.

Cool video. Now all you have to do is edit in a little Music and your your on your way.
A couple tips I have learned along the way!
Keep your Videos under 4 minutes people who watch them an loose Intrest if all they do is see you flying around the same landscape. try different angles or positions from the same plane and edit them all together even if its just looking forward and looking back. you can even attach the flycam to a hat to capture your takeoffs and landings. kinda cool to throw that in also!
I have a bunch of videos on my Youtube page if you want to see what I'm talking
about.

Hi tallflyer. Thanks for the comments. Being I'm new to the video thing I'll take all the help I can get.
You are correct on all help ideas. Yesterday we flew what we call a ZAGI Swarm. The new video is shorter and does have music. The guys didn't care if I smacked the camera they just wanted in air video. We have a blast with the ZAGI. Only electric plane I own. Big time into glow 3D.

They are sending me a new one. My charge lasted about 2 min., then about 5 min. I could never get the fimware to update.
I read the read me file.
I downloaded the file from flyone. When I unzipped it had a readme file and 2 other files. One said update and one install, in the update folder were 3 programs stko2n.0 update, which I installed. then stk02nc wc viewer and stko2nu-update.
Is the stko2n 2.0 update the app. that is suppose to update the camera?
I might be on to something. I held the mode button and plugged the camera into the computer. It came up with a search for drivers and I exited. I clicked on the update program and all it did was say device can't be initialized. I tried all 4 usb ports and it said the same thing. Lost again
WE MUST HAVE THE SAME BATCH
I am having the identical thing happening right now and I can not seem to figure the answer out.The last two nights I have tried in vain to get this thing to function correctly No Luck I'm afraid and reading this forum it seems to be a consistent item of dissatisfaction of the instruction and or the product itself.
I am at a loss to know what to do with this thing.I did purchase it from H-L and know it is not their fault that an item does not function as promised.

Send it back, mine is working GREAT now....
Mine was battery problems... it got hot, too hot and only gave me max 6 min. time.
Are you having problems loading the firmware?
Or are you run times low?
Mine now charges [if at 66] in one half hour. Ran for over one half hour and still had 66 on the battery.

To install new firmware, don't use instructions in the user manual, I tried quite a few times with no luck.
I used instructions from this post in different thread (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9548448&postcount=247) by Gary and it worked no problem first try.

It will also work if you are in the wc mode. You can use the viewer in the software download to work as a web cam. I think the trick is the computer has to reconize the device and not the card on the device.
It will also charge in the wc mode.
I noticed that it was said that it had to be in pc mode for the computer to reconize it, thats interesting, When mine is in pc mode it reconizes the mass storage drive which is your card in the camera. Thats how I get to my pictures, pc on mode and click on my computer to get to mass storage and the pictures. On wc mode it reconizes it as a camera and I can use web cam or download firmware into it.
I tried the button thing and it wanted drivers which I guess it finds as stated by others. But for me the wc mode works for the camera and the firmware.
Anyway thats how mine works. I do seem to remember that somewhere I read that thats why their are 2 different folders in download, some pc"s work for one or the other. I am running windows xp home edition.
Thats what I mean by confusing instructions in the download folders.
If all else fails call hb , they have been very nice to me.

What are you guys using as a connector for remote operation?
Also is the mounting platform substantial enough not to fall off in flight or is there additional mounting needed... seems like the base may separate from the camera
I was going to make up a connector using the pins from a servo connector, but found out the connector plugged right into the pins - same spacing. I used a servo extension and cut off the other end and attached it to a switch - it worked perfectly. I thought that it said that it would start when shorted and stop when shorted again. However, it stops when the switch is turned off. It could easily be controlled by a gear or flap channel on the radio.
We are using the camera to take "water level" videos of r/c sailboats. We mounted the camera to an electric tugboat (Atlantic Harbor).

Pictures do not do so well, you get a blurr cause the frame rate is not to hot. Vidio does the best then you can get a picture from that. The picture I took that shows my flying field was taken out of a vidio. I guess if you used a heli that would work out well
