I'm building (assembling) a Hangar 9 P47D Thunderbolt 150 model.

It will be powered by an E-Flite 160 brushless motor.

Is it reasonable to assume that the motor and motor mount should be centered on the firewall according to the "crosshairs"?

I've spent a fortune on it already; I have everything except the batteries for the motor. Most people are using 10S 5000 lipos. I already own 10S 8000 lipos. Will the size and weight difference cause much of a problem?

If anyone has this motor in this airplane, can you please post any photos of motor mounting and battery locations?

Only if the crosshairs are not centered!

There is likely right and down thrust built into the firewall; so the motor would need to be offset from center so that the shaft is centered at the exit of the cowl.

My H9 1/4 Cub came with a firewall drill guide marked for gas, glow, & electric.

The first part of the process is to mount the cowl and attempt to determine center. If possible mark it through the prop hole. You would also slip a ruler through this hole to determine the spacing required for the motor mount.

Next, mount the motor to your motor mount, and spacer, if one is needed. Tape the motor assembly to the firewall and re-mount the cowl.

This process will give you an idea as to where the motor mount should be attached to the firewall. I mark the center on the top, bottom, and sides of the mount and make sure that those marks line up with the cross hairs.

In most cases I have found that the cross hairs do mark the center. When you do the mock up using the motor, motor mount and tape, you will get a accurate idea of where the mount should be attached to the firewall.

PS, It will help if you have 4 arms and 4 hands to help with this process. I haved used clamps, heavy tape, and my chin and mouth to help hold the stuff together while slipping the cowl over the motor and mount.

Thanks.

The cross-hairs are off-center.

That's good news!

I thought they were likely to be off the firewall center; thus truely being prop shaft center.

Even if they are off center, do not assume they are in the right place.
Ask me how I know.
Follow SCALEFAN's advice and use a ruler to measure firewall to prop drive washer distance. Then with your mount set or built to that distance, turn the fuselage nose up, rest the motor w/mount on the firewall and install the cowl. Move the motor w/mount around on the firewall until the propshaft is where you want it. Mark the location on the firewall and mount the mount.

Looks like you’ve got some good info available since the bolts for their mounts are said to be already installed -- you should be able to work off them.

BOL!

The holes and nuts in the firewall do not match the motor mount nor radial motor mount.

I'm convinced the cross-hairs are (off-)centered properly. I'll still double check with the cowl on.

Another question ...

I need 10S (5000mah or more) lipos to power this plane.

I have stayed with "name - brand" products so far..

Thunder Power or other name brand batteries will likely cost me $600 to $700.

"Zippy" brand (Hobby City or United Hobbies) will cost about $220.

Is there a downsize to these "Zippy" batteries ?

Have you considerd giving A123s a try?

I'll second that. I'm running 12s2p in my Husky.

The batteries weigh 1lb 1oz each (4 6s1p packs) for a total weight of 4lbs 4oz for the batteries.

Recharge as fast as you want. I'm using the Hyperion 1210i chargers for now. Gives me 24 minute charges after 10 minute flights.

I have a few more parts to get to use the charging setup shown in this video

Food for thought....
