Does this make sence ?

Text taken from Hobby-Lobby web site

Note about Graupner props
Props come in rights and lefts for (respectively) counter clockwise, or clockwise rotation. (when looking aft toward the prop from foreward of it). "Right" ( R ) means that looking aft from in front of the prop, the prop turns clockwise"

My interpretation.
"Rights & lefts ... ccw or cw respectively"
So "right" is counter clockwise when looking from the front of the boat to the back of the boat.
All ok till you read the last sentence....
"Right" (R) means that looking aft from in the front of the prop, the prop turns clockwise.

Confused?

I know European RH / LH descriptions are opposite to US but I'm just trying to work out if they mean European RH or US....

We don't need to get into a big debate on RH & LH I was just curious to find out if your as confused as me.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey. On this side of the pond, we tend to look at the props from the stern when discussing "hand". A right hand prop turns clockwise to move the boat forward. Across the pond, they stand at the bow and look at the prop. Their "RH" prop turns CCW when viewd from the stern.

The Graupner definition is European.

Brits are the same as US in spite of the UK being (almost) European.

Look from the back of the boat looking forward. With the prop turning to move the boat forward, look at a blade as it passes straight up. If the blade is moving to the RIGHT, it's a RIGHT hand prop. If not it's a left prop.

Ok, hold on I didn't want to start a debate.

I was just trying to point out the apparant contradiction with the notes on H-Ls web site.

Can't you just swap the leads going to the motor if you get the wrong prop? I know you can in large applications.

Yes you can just swap the motor leads but its best to pick a prop handing where the drag of the water is tightening the prop on the thread rather than trying to undo it.

:) BIGFOOT- Going by the picture you posted in this thread and viewing the props from behind , they would be considered backwards with the right hard prop turning counter clockwise and the left hand prop going clockwise. The whole matter does not mean a hill of beans when you put them into fixed korts nozzles, since all the side thrust is directed straight aft and their will be no prop walking. :)
