I just acquired a Precision Aerobatics Edge 540T from a flying buddy. I was considering a gasser until I looked at the greasy mess inside the engine cowl. Now I am not some anal retentive clean freak but Good Gracious what a nice plane to be subjected to such filth!

I have several 60 size conversions but nothing giant scale, so I could use a little advise.

I need some recommendations on a power setup for 3d / IMAC flying. I converted my Funtana 50x with a Dualsky 5050 motor and an 80 ESC using a 5s 5000 vampower platinum pack and I get unlimited verticals at just a little over half throttle. I would like that type of performance on the Edge.

Also I am considering using an A123 set-up due to the fact that for the price of Lipos I can get about 3 A123 packs, charge em at home and get three flights at the field per outing.

I have found that the opinions of the RCG faithful have saved me a lot of time and money, so I look forward to your input. Thanks Guys!

3D setup:

Hacker A60-18L
CC 110HV
APC 24 x 10E or 24 x 12E (Xoars work as well)
12s 5000mah lipos (25C or higher)

IMAC

Hacker A60-16L
CC 110HV
APC 22 x 8E or 22 x 10E (Xoars also work great)
12s 5000mah lipos or 14s2p 4600mah A123's

These would be my suggestions. I am sure others will post as well about other setups that would work. The combos above would work extremely well and are proven setups that have flown on many giant scale projects. :)

Both of these setups will pull between 3000-4000W and would serve your PA Edge 540T well.

Thanks Tim.

The 12s2p A123; what does the "2p" mean? 2 6 cell packs in parallel?

Thanks again.

Nope,

12 cells is "SERIES" (12S)

2 packs of 12 cells in"PARALLEL"(2P) total of 24 cells.

If you set the packs up right in the plane, you can charge them as 2 6s2p packs and your charger choices expand quite a bit.

I'm running 12s2p in my Husky. Not a 3d plane, but it is a 20 lb model that I can hover ;) Should provide lots of power for a 14lb model

The 6s1p batteries weight 1lb 1oz each to give you an idea of the battery weight.
