Anyone had any trouble with the manufacturer's recommended mounting site for
your gyro on the Nexus? (The little cubby hole over the fuel tank.)

This seems atrociously close to the engine to me. Is there a better spot
where a gyro might survive longer, and still give good response?

My Hobbico micro piezo is mounted on the servo frames. Works great
as far as I can tell. I have no problems at all, but this is my
first piezo gyro. The old futaba 153 BB did not work nearly as
well.

I have a 4 oz fuel tank in the spot over the stock tank, but have not
test flown it yet.

Using 1700 mah batteries, I made up a square pack that has been slung under
the radio tray using ty-raps. This allowed me to mount the gyro and the Rx
on the tray above. Works just fine there:o)

I've used the 'cubby hole' with no problems, but I currently have the gyro
(401) mounted on the servo frames to keep the servo cord length shorter.

I'm probably going to put it up front with the Rx, since other folks seem to
be using that spot just fine. I'm just taking some time getting all the
bumps and vibrations out, and can only imagine the horror if the gyro
suddenly clocks out on me and jams the tail rotor one way or the other.
They may not be so delicate as I imagine, but I'd rather not find out the
hard way. Thanks for everyone's help.

I use a CSM 180 Gyro in my nexus and you are supplied with a square of foam
and some sticky pads. I find if you stick the gyro on the sticky pad and put
the foam round it to secure it it works fine i have been flying it for years
like that. In the bit above the fuel tank

I had no problems with my piezo mounted there. When I switched to a heading
hold gyro I've had problems getting it set up, but I think it was just my
errors.

I am using a GY-401 in the Cubby hole without a hitch. This is probably the
best location as it is out of the way of being damaged by a crash. Remeber,
Gyros should not be exposed to Fuel, Oil, Vibration, and crashes.

The Cubby is the best place.

Thanks,
Carl
