View Full Version : Discussion commercial joystick controller to DX7?

Has anyone built an adapter that would allow a commercial dual joystick to be plugged into the trainer port on a DX7? If a USB joystick, this would convert USB to PPM, which is the opposite from what most projects are doing. Or it might be simpler to use something with a non-USB interface, maybe a Playstation controller?

This would allow you to fly with a lightweight controller; the DX7 could be on a table, tripod, or something similar.

I think this sort of reverse direction (PC sending signals to a TX) has been discussed a few months back. Try the "search this forum" option above, I'm sure you'll dig the thread up

To date if there are any "stand-alone" controllers of this nature I am un-aware of them.

I use Endurance RC's "Servocommander" (http://www.endurance-rc.com/servocommander.html) software and "PCTx" (http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.html) PC to RC transmitter interface for achieving this purpose.

A computer is needed for this however. While I built my own custom computer an inexpensive laptop will do nicely. Just make sure it has plenty of USB ports.

I am using the "Servocommander" software and "PCTx" it to support my full scale fold-up back-pack portable "glass cockpit" (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7898227&postcount=36) with full size flight controls (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7069572&postcount=39), Head-tracking HMD First Person video system and full instrument support.

Good luck,

Another choice is USB v.4 interface from MileHighWings:
http://www.milehighwings.com/
In 'Output PPM' mode, it generates PPM signal and sends it to a DX-7, which happily transforms it into DSM2 ans transmits into the air.

That's pretty neat.

Output PPM mode
This mode is only useable in conjunction with eFlightWorks software, which generates the channel data or plays back previously recorded data and sends it to the transmitter as a PPM stream. If you flip the trainer switch, the transmitter would transmit this data into the air. This way, you can control your model from a computer!

Have a good one,

Hello, do you have video with your RC with Joystick?
