Am i right in assuming that the real rc helicopters are much harder to fly than the ones that come standard with FMS. With FMS you can hover with no hands. If this is the case why would FMS not make them more realistic to aid in learning.

The trick is to add some wind and turbulence to the sim. It doesn't take much. Also, some helis are more difficult than others to fly. If you want a challenge, try the Hummingbird or Blade CP models and try to fly a nice circuit around the "baseball field". I have had both helis and find that FMS is pretty close.

The helis in FMS are all fairly large and large helis are much more stable than small ones like the HummingBird or Blade CP

Well yes and no. FMS has really basic (almost non existant) flght physics so things like inertia and momentum don't seem to come into effect. This means that in FMS you can do things that in reallity would cause a crashed model. FMS is good for getting the basic stick movement.

One thing to realise though, is that no simulator replaces real flying. Main reason is the fear factor of crashing a real model....
