I recently got a new boat which is gas powered, and came with a radio and everything. Now, I am trying to find a new use for my original electric boat. The idea i'm trying to work is a fanboat, as my lake is currently frozen. The parts are all standard stuff, 540 motor, 2 channel receiver, battery packs etc... I am wondering if anyone has any insight as to dimensions, propeller, rudder, layout, etc. I should note that the main use of this boat is for cruising on the ice, but I will also use it for other things (i.e. retrieving my new boat from a terrible patch of weeds).

I would say about half as wide as it is long.
weeel... say 9" by 16" for example
Hobbico makes a gas version 13.5" by 30.5"
And dumas makes the swamp buggy at around 28" by 10"

I would just grab a propeller, and then build your engine mount so that the propeller clears the deck.

Chris,
Ever think of making a hovercraft? Its real simple and cheap to make, and they run best on ice.Pardon me for my ignorance, but wouldn't the ice damage the bottom of the fanboat? (in malaysia the only ice we get is in the freezer).

How exactly would one make a hovercraft? I'm not sure if i could do that without spending much more money, because i'm basically just trying to recycle my old electric boat parts. And to answer your question, most of the ice on my lake is pretty smooth and/or covered in snow, and i plan to coat the plywood hull with epoxy, so it shouldn't be a problem.
