Hi there guys...
I own an Art-tech E-Fly transmitter for my Cessna 182, and i also have a usb cable for it to plug into my computer.
But my despirate question to you, is that if i get hold of the fantastic Realflight G4 software would these two items (the transmitter and the cable, both bought seperately) work with the Realflight?? or would i have to buy a specific cable and transmitter??
If anyone could offer some information, I'de be more than grateful ;)

Nope !
Well not directly. G4 uses its own dedicated interface that works with the software. You will be able to use your own TX via the G4 interface assuming the TX outputs a standard PPm signal.
Oh and I assume that by "if I get hold of G4" you mean that you were intending to buy the full retail package, if so then you'll have no problem using the sim.

...sorry, i don't fully understand...
"Nope !" as in, it wont work with my TX and USB cable...or...
and yes, i have the cds but i don't have the Realflight controller interface.

Ok
All the top end sims use the hardware (dongle type interface or gamecontroller) as the main part of the copy protection for the application. The hardware uses its own proprietry protocol to convert a PPM signal from the TX into the data packets that are sent to the PC's USB port.
So, simply having a "copy" of the CD won't work unless you have the matching dedicated hardware.
The other side of the coin is that years ago there were generally a handfull of transmitter manufactures, and they generally used two "standards" (Futaba and JR) to output PPM from the trainer port. However with the multitude of cheap transmitters coming out from the far east and often bundled with RTF models, they often don't comply to these standards. You could go out and purchase the retail package of G4 / XTR or Phoenix and find that your TX won't work with any of them. However if you know for sure that the TX does send a standard PPm signal then you will have no problem with any of the mainstram sims.
Hope that's a bit clearer

Yh definitely, thanks so much Malc, that helps hugely.
...and yh my TX does send a standard FM-PPM signal, so it could possibly work right?.... oh and does the cable matter, or can it be any that has both the JR and USB plug?
oh and i was having a squable with my friend earlier, disagreeing over if there was a difference betwean the Realflight hardware of G2 and G4... He said that the G2 hardware would work with the G4 software, what do you think?

You obviously didn't read my post - the retail pack comes with all the hardware you need for whatever connection your TX has. Your current cable is not required

Personally I've only ever used G2 non interlinked version some years back, now use AFPD. I would of thought that the firmware in the G4 interface is different to the G2 one, otherwise, from a marketing point of view, there would be no point for someone to purchase G4 if they already had G2 interlink version.

I have a reality Craft simulator controller which connects through usb. it does not work with my reflex Xtr but will it be possible to work with the realflight, if not i have a interface which i have for another transmitter will this work for the Realflight or not. Thanks.

struth, reserect an old thread !!!!
All top end simulators (realflight from G2 interlink, AFPD, XTR and Phoenix) require their own dedicated interface / game commander to function. Its this hardware that protects the software from illegal duplication and permits the software to run on the PC.
The only legal way to enjoy these simulators is to purchase an original retail package that will include the dedicated hardware.

Which IMO is ridiculous.
You can still use an older/different brand controller, you just need the corresponding Interlink to start RealFlight.
My advice though, just shell out the cash and buy RealFlight with everything. It's totally worth it.

Which IMO is ridiculous.
Why.. ??
I'm sure if you had invested a lot of time, money and effort to develop (in the case of XTR) something that was unique you would want to protect it in some way. Interlinking hardware with the application is not new, but its a sure way to ensure that most sales are genuine and you recoup some of your investment.
I have to agree with your second comment.. only that it applies to any of the top sims, not just RF ;)

Or, look into a dongle emulator.
Please check the rules... discussing how to circumvent the copy protection of simulators is likely to get you into trouble with the moderators
