I just came accross these pics of a whole old church being moved: http://www.rc-luftbilder.de/kirche/kirche.htm. Now I could post the link in the RC AP forum, but I think it is really a piece of "history on the move", more appropriate here.

Arthur - do you have a little of the history to go with your photos?

Did a little bit of looking up. This was the Heuersdorfer Kirche (church) in Neukieritzsch. The whole town of 320 people had to move due to a new brown-coal mine on its site. On these pictures the church is on its 12 km journey to Borna in Germany (http://www.mz-web.de/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=ksta/page&atype=ksArtikel&aid=1192779578715&openMenu=987490165154&calledPageId=987490165154&listid=994342720546). The church was build in or around 1297 and was the oldest remaining building in Heursdorf. More info here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmauskirche_%28Borna%29

Wow! 1297 - around here buildings from that time are low ruins.

Nothing compared to all that Egyptian stuff they moved when the big Aswan dam went up. That was from a couple of thousand BC :D
