Hey Guys, I've recently just been flying small parkflyers because of the small flying areas surrounded by massive trees :p Buutt... I was with my friend looking for a good flying area on google earth and came across an abandoned air strip. So now that I have somewhere to fly, I'm lookin at getting a 6' or 8' telemaster ARF from Hobby-Lobby. Does anyone have one of there or know how easy they are to fly? (You can only learn so much with small park flyers)

I have a 94" STM under rebuild. At 13 pounds I made the mistake of getting too low, too slow in a down wind turn. My fault, no issue. You must fly all four channels with a STM so practice coordinated turns.
That said, I was disappointed in the poor construction. I hope HL has changed this. In inspecting my broken fuse I found there appeared to be NO epoxy in the fuse. Decent hot-glue joints were coincidental. The replacement fuse had a chunk missing from the rear-most former requiring my repair through the covering.

I use my Sr. TM for aerotow. I use an E-Flite 160. Although it is a big plane, it flies like a trainer, lifts off within 10ft., and looks great in the air.

With a 160 in it, it should hover- no? :)

I learned (am still learning !) to fly on a 6ft Telemaster electro. VERY easy plane to fly for a beginner in no / low wind. Bit of a floater, so a bit more difficult for a beginner if it's windy. If you can fly park fliers you should have no problems. Real confidence builder first time out to get a very experienced pilot and buddy box it though.

piss yellow is not very appealing. why not paint shiny grey with your mother land's star?
because when I tow and fly to high altitudes, the yellow can be seen easily... gray would mix with clouds and you would lose sight...

maybe... but I use the wind to blow leaves off my grass :D

Now THERE is an angle to get the wife to let me buy a huge motor and expensive batteries for the STM I have sitting in my hobby room. I haven't been able to decide what to power it with- but instead of a leaf blower, I'll just get a huge brushless. Thanks for the tip!

Tell her it will make a great hair dryer and then run like hell.
And go with A-123's and tell her your saving money, and keep running.

BTW; This is what my honey gave me for Christmas.

I have a 6ft Telemaster Electro! I love it! It is a fun "Sunday Flier"! I also setup a drop box, and drop parachute men, and candy!
If you can fly park flyers, you can fly the Telemaster! It does float, so you have to have a long runway to land. It will fly pretty slow if you get it flying into the wind.
Here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=804736) are some pics of my Telemaster.

The Tele gets a few comments on being a bit fragile. Check out a Sig Kadet Senior. Tower. Very strong. A Scorpion Brushless 41- series with 123 batteries makes a very nice combo. www.RCdude.com.

Fragile? This is one of the more robust planes I have!

Thank you.
Don't know how I got so lucky. It sure wasn't clean living.

Telemasters are considered trainers, and both the 6 and 8 foot versions are very easy to fly. However, I would go with the 8 footer just because it's so big and looks awsome in the air, not to mention all the extra parachute men it can carry!

I'm planning to use my 8 foot Tele to replace my SuperStar EP AND my Multiplex Cargo based B-17 for aerial photo, video and dropping stuff. I figure the Tele can do all that stuff.
I'm not going to post a pic of my x-mas present... :)

Holy crap!!! a 160???? I fly my ST on an E-Flight 60 and 8S of A123s, and at 10 lbs, it leaps off the ground in a totally non-scale way, climbs out as steeply as you want, loops from level flight, rolls, etc. -
It really should have a 46 size motor, IMHO.

Just like I told my wife I NEEDED the supercharger option on my Range Rover... you know, for passing slow traffic and safety... :)

My Sr. Tele has an Axi 4120/18 running on 6s4p A123. I've yet to determine how long it will fly. It went 30 minutes last time and only put back 1/2 of the pack capacity. The 4120/18 has plenty of power. Instead of parachutes and bombs I opted to carry more batteries because I was aiming toward super long flight times.
Yes landings are difficult because it floats for so long. I cut the throttle while turning for final approach and don't put it back on except to help smooth out the touchdown.

Oh forgot to add takeoff's are at 3/4 throttle. I take a chair with me to the flightline now.

Presently flying a converted gas TM with a E-Flite 46 on 4/3850 Common Sense litepolly pack. Outstanding flyer and it carries a still camera under left wing and a small cam corder under the belly at the C/G. Full house with flaps and it is a doll to fly. Take off in less than 10 feet and with flaps you can mark the spot on the runway and hit it 8 out of 10 times. It flies like a Telemaster and I mix the rudder and ailerons on the transmitter most of time for ease of flight. No negative things to say, also works great on floats as well. ed

Gotta set it up for flaperons. It gets mine down pretty well!
Even going the other way with spoilerons helps dump lift.

I finally flew until the battery was dead. It was 50 minutes. And 10 minutes of that was spent with no throttle way up high in a terrific thermal. It kind of felt like cheating.

Hi Simon,
You neglected to mention if you will be using electric or glow. I fly the 40 TM Electro and it is my favorite plane. Flys just like my full-size Skyhawk.
I recently put prices in a spreadsheet for the TM Senior AFR, glo vs. electric. The glow version was $320 cheaper.
Good landings,
Dennis
