View Full Version : Foam Tires
What do you use foam tires for? Do you use them on the road? If so,
wouldn't they get chewed up real quick?

WE run 1/10th scale touring cars and foam tires. The tread life depends a
lot on the hardness of the foam and the track surface. On a smooth asphalt
track, we can get a full days racing (about 45 min actual run time) on of a
set of 40 to 45 shore (purple and double purple color code) foam tires.
Soft foams (30 shore or pink) on an abrasive surface like a parking lot and
they are gone in 5 min.

foam is used on carpet tracks. also on flat asphalt. of course, wear does
become a big problem w/ them. but hey, u use whatever gives u the best grip
when u race.

Correct, & on carpet tracks, foam tires definitely offer the best grip &
wear is actually pretty good too. For pan cars, there is no better tire, &
even for touring cars, foam tires on carpet offer a ton of grip(as well as
lower rolling resistance than rubber tires & inserts) for better
acceleration...:)
