Hi,
Don't want to knock your aluminum case, but it's sized for a 450 or possibly a parts case after your 500 had a "brown-out"!

Plus it really is not an aluminum case. The trim is ribbed aluminum and the corners are steel. While the sides are plastic.
Why are you trying to mis-represent this case ? It is not aluminum and it does not fit the Trex 500 ????

Yes, guys Lets stick to the fact that theT-REX 500 will not fit in a 450 box. I need something to carry my 500 with me to shows and on demos. Have you guys every seen a box when you get it back from the airport. They throw most of the boxes around and the delivery system sucks.
Just trying to get a something like the T-rex 450 box. Where I can place some tools a couple batts and the radio. Maybe have enough room for the chargers too!
That is what we all need that are getting 500's and even 600's. I would buy a box that could hold a 500 or a 600 Trex!
Thanks.

I found this link on the All Things That Fly website. I think GFBurke is the one that found it. The measurements should accommodate a T-Rex 450, but may work with the 500 with the canopy removed. I am planning on ordering one for my Dragonus. Best of all, they come in some cool colors and the price just can't be beat.

I dont think it will fit. I think your only option would be to custom order one from Anvil or any one of those Musical equipment road case companies. I had Anvil quote me one at nearly 300 bucks for my EP8.

The dimensions of the T-rex 500 are approximately 33"L X 12 1/2"H X 6 1/2"W.
Make us a case that will fit those dimensions plus padding and we will buy it.

You could always make your own, mine is made from 3.5mm ply, light and strong, carries a 3dx-500 and a X-450. The removable top doubles as a workbench when at the field.

To help the nice people walking by my vehicle from becoming a criminal. Plus for physical protection while the heli is riding around in the back of my vehicle.

Easier to stack in the truck and hanger rash protection.I made boxes out of plastic coroboard for all my helis.Sometimes I take all 5 out to the field and they allow me to stack them up behind my seat without entangling them into a giant spaghetti pile :D

The best thing I've seen for transporting a helicopter in a rough environment like airline baggage handling has to be the SKB case. I've seen them on Amazon.com for around $185. Part number 2SKB-5020W will hold up to a 620mm heli comfortably with it's 50x13x20 inch interior dimensions and there are smaller sizes available that cost less. They also have a $1500 warranty covering damages to contents as well as a lifetime warranty to the case, hinges and handles. These things are seriously strong. You will have to supply your own foam padding for the inside and the -5020W is too large for the airlines without paying the oversize penalty but a smaller 500 sized case should meet the size restriction.

That's a very interesting looking case. Do you have one? If not, do you know what its actual dimensions are? Since it's called a "CD case", it may be smaller than it appears.
Thanks,

The dimensions of this case are 24" x 7.25" x 12". The T-Rex case is 24" x 8" x 11.5".
I do not have one yet, but am planning to order one in the next few weeks. I'll be happy to post pics when I get one.

Great. If you find a T-Rex size bird fits well, and are happy with it, I may get one for my MX-400.

Would you guys pay a 75 bucks bucks for a nice looking travel bag for a T-REX 500? That would hold a radio 3 6S packs and a tool pouch. That would protect your heli even in the airport?
Bunyan
Feb 26, 2008, 05:18 AM
Let's see some pics! It all depends on the bag. How much can a soft shell really protect a heli? It sure would be handy to be able to throw it all in a bag and transport it but I can't imagine that it would protect it much in a transport.
Either way what did you find?

Nope, I didn't find anything. My mother said she would help me make a bag on the weekend if I got all that I wanted for it!
So , I am willing to try and make my own! Could start another business!

The plastic material they use on this case is stronger than some of the plastic parts used in the heli, LOL

fw190, those last two cases are the ones I mentioned. Pretty stout cases. I like how the handle and latches are all spring loaded to lay flat. Can you give the interior dimensions and exterior dimensions on your case? Do you get charged over-size fees when you travel with it? It looks like it's going to be over 62 linear inches in L+W+H. The only thing keeping me from buying one for right now is the airline size restriction.

Feb 28, 2008, 05:57 PM
My golf case inside measurement is 48" x12" diameter. You check in just like a luggage in an airline. You can take your heli to the Bahamas if you want to. :)
Lockable on 3 latches. If you setup a good foam support inside it can easily hold everything you need to fly a T500 and plenty strong enough for the Samsonite commercials.

Just came back from the LHS and noticed that Graupner is selling a complete RTF kit of the Logo 10 compact. The RTF heli comes complete with a great looking aluminum box. I don't know if they sell the box seperate but it sure would work out great.

No, I haven't ordered it yet. I just got my dough from Uncle Sam and dropped about 6 bills large on servos, esc, wi-fi upgrade for my 8103, 6100e rx, and batteries and charger.
It's next on my list, though! I'll let you know...

why hide a nice heli ....
Some of us have to walk or ride bikes to the park... Not because I'm not old enough to drive, but because I live in a city where it would take longer to drive to the park than walk...
I'm sure a custom flight-case would work, but probably not the most economical route.

That is a good price if the case can stand the rigors of travel.
A good transmitter case cost 50-79 dollars so that looks like a deal. I could use something in the 50x24x16 or 18 size for my 550 size heli too.
I guess Ill get a trex 450 case from Helihobby for my Beam.

The Trex 500 Modda case is a decent case. It is aluminum banded with fiber board sides but it is really actually tough. The DX7 doesn't fit in it with the handle on it though the main blades push against the radio. You have to take off the main blades or remove the handle for your DX7. This was told to me by a good reliable flying buddy of mine. He knew this going in and still opted for the case there is a slot for the main blades at the top.

A guy from our club uses a plastic bow case filled with foam for his TRex 500. The heli fits there perfectly with spare room for batteries. I am not sure, but as far as I can remember, the transmitter is stored there as well. Something like the one on the picture.

I just got mine from Sureflite. Which is a Modda case. Its really nice. I really like it. Dx7 fits in perfect with no mods. you just put the handle in first. I was going to buy the helihobby one. But i didnt like the fact that it says lightning power on it. I dont beleive in advertising for a battery or anything that i do not fly.

Thanks! I called them on 15 September and placed my order.
It was mailed a couple of days later by Parcel Post, so I should have it in a few months. Parcel Post to the APO takes 30-90 days for large packages, but I would have paid for First Class or Priority had I known it was going the slow way :(

The websites (surflite and helihobby) both say that it is an aluminum case.
So, is it all aluminum, or they falsely advertising?

If you are a case manufacturer , you could make a killing selling cases.
If you just made them in a reasonable price range. I don't care if it was all plastic.
But couldn't it be done?
169 for a case, holy Freaking cow.
