View Full Version : Futaba MC230CR ESC: Reverse

I'm having a problem getting my Futaba MC230CR ESC to reverse. When I
swing the trigger on the transmitter into reverse, nothing happens
most of the time. I have no problems when going forward, even if I'm
going full-out in reverse. If I fiddle with the trigger long enough,
or wait about 5 seconds, the car will go backwards. It's my first car
ESC; previous experience has been with airplane ESCs and mechanical
speed controls on cars.
This ESC is brand new with a brand new Futaba "Magnum Junior" radio.
There is nothing in the instructions which describe "normal" ESC
operation, just a short blurb on how to disable reverse.

Its supposed to do that.
When you go from any speed forward to reverse, it only applies the brakes.
You have to let it return to neutral then reverse again so the car will
actually go backwards.
The advantage is that you have fully functional and purportional braking,
and also cant bust the drivetrain by jamming from forward to reverse.

Plus modified motors with their timing adjusted don't like going in reverse.
