Mr. Zero...you might want to post your product in Electric Helis...there are a lot more people in that forum than this one ...and they all use gyros...unlike this forum which is "everything" R/C

humm interesting so see what other people get for the weight..

Also update on the instructions. Its best if you use a blow dryer to get your stock plastic case off.

A little info about this case... Its made from MIC-6 Alloy... not made with cheep recycled aluminum ;) . It will take a lot to bend this box.

Zero,

Cool.... was starting to wounder if anyone got um... Also make sure you us a hot blow dryer ( like the one a woman might use to dry her hair ) to heat up the hot glue that holds on the base of your case. This way makes it real easy to take off.

Hello.

First off, I would like to thank Mr. Zero for the opportunity to review his product (I will refer to it in thie review as the Alum Case, as opposed to the stock Plastic Case)

I received it in the mail 3 days ago and it came packaged well. Shipped from California.

My weigh scale read 15 grams about 2 out of every 3 times I placed it on the scale. About 1 out of every 3 times it read 16 grams.

It came with 2 sheets of paper instructions. They are easy to understand, and straight forward.

The hex head screws protrude from the bottom of the Alum Case. This was not an issue with my T-Rex as the screw heads clear my particular mount, but on a large flat mounting plate this might be an issue. The screw heads would be better if flush with the Alum Case base.

The inside of the Alum Case base and top are nicely CNC machined. Very precise. Unfortunately a hex screw wrench is not included.

I have attached a photo of my stock Plastic Case setup.

Once I removed the stock Plastic Case with its valuable internal electronics- still inside, I started to get a bit apprehensive, as I knew that a $140.00 Gyro was at risk.

The next step was to open the stock Plastic Case. I have a very small tri-gram screwdriver that worked well, but the instructions state that a very sharp and very pointy knife will work. Note: Our tiny Philips screwdrivers will not work as they are not 3...but 4 point.

Once I removed the top of the Plastic Case (this comes off easy, but don't get too confident yet) the issue is removing the hot-glued plastic base. The instructions say to use a lighter, yet Mr. Zero posted to use a blow dryer that a woman might use. Trust me on this, the woman's blowdryer I have is to difuse to do this job. Use the lighter to heat the base and pry apart. The flame must not touch the plastic for obvious reasons. This step will cause you some stress, as the base will not want to separate easily and mine came apart in a twisted irrepairable state.

To be continued...

Hi guys.

So, once I had the Futaba electronics out of the stock Plastic Case I tried to pre-fit it into the Alum Case. Something seemed wrong. The little black electronic part labeled "101" (you will see it when you open the Plastic Case) touched the top on the Alum Case. So, for all its CNC precision, there is a minor accuracy flaw. It is missing a small bore-cut to allow the extended electronic component "101" free space.

I used my Dremel Tool and a stone bit to hone out space for the black component "101" to fit into. I washed the Alum Case to remove any particles.

Since the Alum Case is obviously conductive, the instructions say to use a small disk of cardboard from a cereal box to prevent electrical shorting, a cereal box like a child might use. A better solution is to heat up your small glue gun and "fill-in" or "top-off" any exposed conductive contacts. Do this sparingly yet everywhere metal contacts are exposed that may come in contact with the aluminium.

Everything then went back together nicely as I reinstalled the Gyro in its new Alum Case and refastened to my T-Rex. I ran it up in my basement testing in a low hover and the Gyro functions as before.

My final comments gentlemen:

1. It is an attractive, durable, and precise upgrade.
2. It should have flush hex screws and a bore-cut for component "101".
3. A tri-gram screwdriver and hex wrench should be included.
4. Instructions should be included to describe how to insulate the exposed contacts with hot glue (as per the stock Futaba design), not some child's cereal box cardboard.
5. A less risky way to remove the Plastic Case base...there may be none  .
6. If your Gyro is in a protected location, this upgrade may not be required.

Overall, it is a product that deserves consideration and I for one, look forward to Mr. Zero's next steps with it!

Thanks again!
