View Full Version : Gear Pitch
Does anyone know how to measure gear pitch? I bought a two speed clutch
bell for like $2 at my LHS (unpackaged, unmarked, but brand new) but I don't
know the pitch. It is very close to my stock HPI 1m gears, but not exactly
that.
Never mind about that. I asked it before I searched the web. For those of
you who want to know, the pitch label that is often used is the diametral
pitch.
Diametral Pitch = number of teeth / pitch diameter
Pitch diameter = (number of teeth x circular pitch) / pi
Circular Pitch = linear distance from one end of a tooth to the other,
including
the space

To relate this closer to models, go on google and have a look back to a
thread a few days ago titled 'spur gear', I posted, in reply to the OP, a
short bit on how to relate gear sizes to model car sizes .. ;)
Might help a little .. ;)

Personally, I just take out the old pitch gauges from my tool box and
measure!!
