For years, I've been custom wiring up a simple and light harness for my Genie line of thermal ships, using a 6-pin, 2-part Deans connector. This is for 3 piece, 4 servo wings.

I just finished another such installation and decided to update the instructions. The cost to make such a harness is about $4 and it can easily be custom-sized to fit the airframe. It utilizes the servo connectors and leads cut off the flap and aileron servos, rather than having to buy separate servo leads. Other than those, you only need some heat shrink (HS) tubing, some longer 3 wire lead to reach the aileron servos and a little 1/8" brass or copper tubing.

Friend Jay Decker has just added the file to the Genie web pages at http://genie.rchomepage.com/. Click on the Wiring Harness file in the numbered list.

I really like to split the left and right side by using a 4-pin for each side. That way, if you lose one of the power wires, you don't lose the entire wing. Just paranoid, and the 4-pin Deans are commonly available..

Andy. . .your point is well taken and it would be fine if the unpowered wing had the surfaces in neutral. I've used a pair of 4 pin Dean's and had one side quit with a flap down and an aileron up during use of "crow" on a landing approach. The experience provided more excitement than was needed when intending to neutralize everything.

I used a DB9 with the metal shell cut off to make it smaller. Was able to double up on a number of the wires, including the power wires. Works well. There are probably a number of other connectors that would work as well and have a few more pins in case you're using 4 servos.
