US tax payers: What are you gonna spend your rebate checks on??? :p
(or what would you spend it on if the better/other half doesn't get it first?)

I know it will be something boat related, either scale or real (since both require the money pit to be open).

Married? Paying taxes now? Up to $1200.

Pay next year? Nah, we'll let our kids pay for it... and their kids...

My Bride will camp out at the mail box before I could get that check. I agree Jerome on the snow it is still snowing here too. A day or two before the boats will float around here.

I don't think I'm getting a check. The current congress doesn't like people whose combined income is over 100K. We are somehow 'rich'. I guess I would be if I lived in Texas or something. Here in Cali, I'm borderline poor. I live in a 3 bedroom condo that costs over 300K. I guess someone neglected to tell our congress folks that. My wife and I aren't even getting any money back this year. I got back over 5k last year. Yeah, there's still a marriage penalty.

Flat tax time. I really wish there was just flat tax, no pork and no earmarks!

It's a temporary loan. It's not free money. You WILL pay it back next year.

CNN:

The package, which passed the Senate 81-16, will send rebate checks to 130 million Americans in amounts of $300 to $600 for people who have an income between $3,000 and $75,000, plus $300 per child. Couples earning up to $150,000 would get $1,200.

The checks are an advance on next year's refunds, and most, if not all of the money, will be deducted from taxpayers' refunds in 12 months' time.

Oh that's sweet! And if I don't have a refund next year, I have to PAY it back?
This will quickly degenerate into a political rant :censored: (even if that is the responsible way for them to do this  )... so I'll stop jabbering before this gets kicked into the Political Rant forum...

OK Tom, I saw that statement in the CNN piece, but just went back, and now it's gone!

So either they were wrong, or it's all a big conspiracy...

A tax rebate? Yeah, right---.

This is just Bush's feeble attempt at trying to establish something positive for his presidential "legacy".

But it won't blot out the shambles he's made of our economy, nor will it hide the graves of all those good men and women he's sent to their deaths---.

Hey the Kap is back! Been too quiet around here lately...

But now if that rebate does show up in our mailboxes, what better to spend it on than a UPS truck full of fiberglass hulls?? ;)

from http://money.cnn.com/2008/02/08/pf/taxes/rebates_what_you_need_to_know/index.htm?cnn=yes :

"Do I have to pay the rebate back?
No. And here's why.

Your rebate is a one-time tax cut - an advance on a credit you'll receive on your 2008 return."

So it doesn't come out of your refund (if any) next year... it's an ADDITIONAL credit offered in 2009 on your 2008 return, then zeroed out 'cause you already got it.
And so yes, our kids will pay for it...

And since our gov'munt doesn't have the money in hand, it will be have to be borrowed in the form of government bonds from the ChiComs and other overseas lenders, and repaid plus interest by our children and grandchildren in the form of exorbitant tax rates during their working lifetimes. Won't they love us for that little legacy!

:) HEY GUYS- What’s a tax rebate? What is that? I don’t think I have ever seen one in all the years I have been in business. Heck I even have an accountant who does my taxes. And he says it applied to the next quarters taxes. Oh well I love my job so I guess I am better off then some. :)
