Not too long ago, while building a Spirit Elite from a kit, I ran into a small problem with the wing seating on the wing saddle. I posted for help here, and got several good replies. All is now well, and I wanted to share the results. Once again thanks to all. This is a great place to be.

Sorry guys, I tried to attach a pic of the finished Elite, but it didn't come through :( Let me try again, I'm certainly not a computer genius:D

Sure looks nice. Thanks for posting the pic. Let us know how it flies.

Yes, a flight report would be great! How about the particulars, weight, servos, etc?

I have one that is basically framed up but I set it aside to work on other things. I need to finish the final wing panel and cover the beast....

Yours looks good!

Sorry for the delay in responding. With the holidays and really miserable weather I haven't had a lot of free time. I have the Elite set up with a Hitec Eclipse 7. It has 6 Hs 81 servos and is set up with crow and speed presets on the 3 way switch. I'll play with more mixes once I get to fly. :) I don't have an acurate finished weight yet, and with this miserable east coast weather it hasn't flown. I did build a spirit 2 meter from a kit, and I love that plane as a res. I bought a spirit arf a while back to return to the hobby after a looooong absense. We used to fly Aquila's and Olympics in Colorado. I"ve given the arf to my son and he does well with it. I'm hoping I enjoy the Elite as much as the Spirit. I know they're a bit heavy, but they are fun and relaxing to fly.

Hi dwoel,

Nice ship.

I'd like to know the technique you used to cover your plane, How did you apply the covering that matched your design? I'm looking for do a good job in the art of covering with differents colors.

Thanx in advance.

Ricardo.

Thanks guru-dick

The plane is covered with ultra cote iron on film. I usually use transparents cause they light up so nice in the air. This time I wanted to go in a little different direction. As you can see the plane is all blue. The stripes are hard to see in the pic. They are actually 3 stripes. One silver, one white, and one sky blue. They were put on with ultra trim which comes in rolls 3 1/2 inches wide. It has a peel away back and is repositionable when you apply it. The technique I use goes like this.
First I make a full size template of the trim I want to do. I do this by drawing it out on a piece of artists matt board (the soft board used to matt photos). Poster board would probably work, but the matt board is easy to cut and is a bit thicker. It holds it's shape as a template well. It can be bought at A.C. Moore (craft store) for about $6.00 for a 32x40 inch sheet. Next I lay out the ultra trim on a cutting surface, finish side down. A 2x4 foot piece of smooth masonite works for me. I spray the matt board template lightly with 3m 77 adhesive. Press the template to the back side of the ultra trim, being sure to keep it flat with no wrinkles. Use a sharp xacto blade to cut around the template and then lift from board. You can now peel the ultra trim from it's backing and apply to plane. You can use this to make any shape design you want. Stars, stripes, wavey flags, use your imagination. I don't know where this technique came from, but it works for me. Once your design is on you can seal it with a low heat iron. Hope this explanation is clear enough, if not I'll try to answer more. Thanks for asking.......dwoel:) :)
