View Full Version : Data PDA support for live telemetry

I think it will be wise from eagle tree side to give an upgrade for a PDA software in order to have a live telemetry by linking the seagull to a WM5 PDA.
I'm sure that at least 90% of eagle tree costumers are the type of people who carry PDA.
Thanks.

Hi chawki212,
Thanks for the suggestion. We are working on some support for that. Will keep you posted!

Hi All,
Please let us know the following, if you don't mind:
1) In what format should the data be displayed on the PDA (graphs, gauges, tables, etc.)
2) What type of PDA do you have?
Thanks!

As for me, I'm mostly interested in being able to review recorded data at the field without a PC, so I'd be interested in a graph output. I guess that for live telemetry, a gauge output would be best.
My PDA is a HP iPaq 2210.
Thanks in advance,
Francesco

Yep, graphs for quick viewing in the field and the raw data capture I can transfer to the PC when I get home for detailed analysis.
I have a HP iPAQ HW6965

Bill,
I love the idea also - Maybe BlueTooth format, as I believe that more people have BlueTooth capability these days than anything else. Would like to see this for the FDR also. Graphs & Raw Data transferable on landing. In my case, I use a Palm Tungsten E2.

i have an htc tytn II
running wm6
i would say for live stats and readings on the go, tables would work best
and i guess u could use charts and gauges but it would have to be one display at a time, as the screen is too small
bluetooths works best, except thats when it will be very expensive
maybe WIFI??? for live stats :D
newer pda's dont have IR
make big buttons to eleminate the use of a stylus
i would say go with miniUSB

Awesome idea!
I'm using a HTC Touch with WM6.
Numeric values for live data, excel charts for downloading would be good for the small screens.
Bluetooth or Wifi are both good, but most likely expensive. Maybe a very long USB cable :)
And big buttons is a great idea!
Greetings,
Michael.

I would also like to see support for the Pocket PC.
Graphs would be awsome but would be happy with simple downloads.
I have a iPAQ rx5915.

Bill,
(1) I vote for graphs and tables (gauges take too much room for limited screen real estate - but the "cool factor" is high :). As far as the wireless transport method, a lot of devices now are BT (BlueTooth) enabled (all of my laptops, tablets and mobile phones). Wi-fi is an interesting option, but it does suck down more power.
(2) I am using a T-Mobile Dash as my smartphone (GSM/BT/Wi-Fi).
(3) I am developing a cellular (quad-band GSM) device with interfaces for data acquisition and transmission. Regarding the eLogger, it would be able to schedule transmission of data at regular intervals (live mode) or respond to a pre-authorized poll for stored data in the logger (for all or specific sessions). There is a UART on the chip so it can take in a serial data stream, format it and transmit it. Peak results can be sent via SMS (text message) or directly to the mobile device's graphical application, if polled. The only caveat to this approach is that the user would need a SIM card (beside the one on their phone - if GSM) and they would have to pay a monthly fee to their carrier - most-likely for an unlimited data plan, which isn't too bad anymore.
I'm wondering if there would be any interest in using the cellular interface to tie in the the eLogger?

Hi Bill,
do you have some news about PDA support for your loggers?
Standing close enough to read the power panel on a heli is getting scary :)

Michael.

Hi,
I am using a Verizon XV6800 (also known as HTC Mogul and PPC 6800) running Windows Mobile 6 Pro and has USB, Bluetooth, WiFi and IR.
Probably a mini Data Recorder application for the WM6 with similar features and functionality with the full application will be great.
Windows Mobile is becoming the common standard on many SmartPhones/PDAs and is available from all the Cellular providers.
I used to be a Palm user (Trio, LifeDrive) but PalmOne is falling behind in the PDA/Smartphone capabilities and performance.

I also vote for that.
I am using / have access to/ different models of Dell PDAs: Axim X5 with PPC2003 and Axim X51V with WM5.
Looking forward for any advance on this! :)

I use a Blackberry Curve.
Blackberry and Windows Mobile phones are the big sellers these days (not including the iPhone). You'd hit a fairly large user base with just support for those two.

1) I would like the data in raw binary or ascii text format so that I can create my own displays and audible speech output. A DLL to allow user custom programs to access the telemetry data for special applications would be very useful.
2) I have an HP iPAQ hx2790 running Mobile 5.0.

Hi bill,
Same needs as JBeanElliott : a component, DLL or ocx (same as for Windows), giving access to the raw data.
I use an HTC Diamond on Windows Mobile 6.5.
Thanks for your answer

An Iphone would be a great thing. it has GPS, so it does make a lot of sense to use with the GPS expander to find los planes for instance. Or how about live display in google earth's aplication for the iPhone.

Just give us an open format so we can write our own software.
