Can someone assist me in getting the proper powerplant, that would be equal to this:
LASER-200v: 4-stroke twin The engine gives best power between 8-9,000rpm, swings a 18 X 6 prop and weighs 2.557 lbs
I'd like to electrify a High wing, scale warbird:
Scale 1:5
Wingspan 112"
Wing Area 1500+ Sq.in
Length 78"
Weight 20lbs without motor
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Have a look at the Vortex brushless at http://www.allelectricrc.co.uk/new-2007-vortex6362286-203-p.asp
Its a 2kW motor. I have the smaller 1kW motor in a T240 (96 inch span) weighing approc 16lbs swinging a 16x8 on 6s 8000 lipo and it flies with lots of power. The 2kW needs 8-10s lipo and I am considering it for a 96inch 1/3 scale biplane as my next big project.

The closest motor might the astro 120 5 turn, which weighs 32 oz, and turns an 18-10 prop at 7800 rpm at around 90 amps on 10s lithium. With a 20-10 it will draw about 100 amps.

Steve,
You might also look at the larger Hyperion outrunner motors. I have a couple of their smaller ones, and they are very nice motors. Seem to perform at least as well as advertised, if not better.
Here is a link: http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=26&cat=motors+%2D+LARGE+BRUSHLESS
Allerc also sells them, I think. http://www.allerc.com/

Hacker A60 18L on 12S lipo with 24X12. spins it 6,000, and on hot packs I've seen 6200. At 6000, that's 72mph pitch speed compared to 54mph with your 18X6 at 9K, plus a WHOLE LOT more thrust. You could probably drop to 10S if you just wanted equivalent power. I'm using this in a 16.5 lb Yak and it 3D's well with it, thrust is very high, pitch speed good. I've played with a 21X14 for more speed (lots more), and that might be right for a warbird like you speak of

I guess I should mention that it is a STOL warbird, namely the Fi-156 Storch!:D
Thanks guys for all your input. It helps immensely!
Cheers,

That's a little "different" for a warbird <G>
i know the 24X12 setup gives nice vertical pull from hover on a 16.5 lb plane, and BoneDoc here on ezone has used the same exact setup on a 20 lb extra (33% or 35% that was lightened extensively). It hovered that extra and pulled out,.. so would be good on your application, and you might even want to drop to something in the 8 inch pitch range and go up a few inches in diameter,..maybe a 26X8 or so.

forgot to mention,..that setup, on freshly charged TP extreme V2 cells (5000mah) is 4400 watts (97ish amps),.. but using throttle appropriately i get 8+ minute flights with a mix of 3D and IMAC style flying.
