Hey all!

I am working on a fuel cell UAV project. This UAV is made as a long endurance aircraft.
I am currently looking for a wing (wing from a Kit aircraft, or a custom wing I could design) efficient at low speed (15m/s). I need a really low Cd/Cl^1.5 factor.

I have looked some gliders I could use to do that, however, I have no precise information regarding the precise shape of the wing.

Maybe someone have recommendations about an other good glider I should use (and I could buy quickly), or a person who could build a custom wing (with the ailerons!!!!) from drawings I have? I need to get the wing really quickly (first flight in April... and I have to build the fuselage, the tail, to test everything...!)

Thanks for any piece of information!!!!!

Regards
JC

Cougar,

Welcome to RCGroups! Sounds like a fun project. Is this for a university research project? The trouble you are going to run into is that typical large glider models are built heavy to take the everyday abuse of the average modeler so most COTS wings of the size required will be heavier than you want. I assume your fuel cell is not high power since they are hard to come by, I'm guessing 200-300 watts. So you need the lightest structure possible with a light wing loading with all systems installed.

You can see if RNR products is willing to make a custom layup for their SBXC or MXC cross country sailplane wings. But, they are designed for speed so the airfoil may not have enough camber for your requirements. When you get into a specialty area like fuel cells, sometimes the only answer is custom made. Like these http://www.horizonfuelcell.com/UAV.htm

Good Luck. It's quite an ambitious project.

I had found this interesting from diydrones.com: http://diydrones.com/profiles/blog/show?id=705844%3ABlogPost%3A13707

Hope its useful to you.

Thanks for your help guys! I really appreciate.
Yep, it is for a university research project. I am working with 2 phD students.

Which university and who's fuel cell, inquiring minds want to know so I can keep a look out for the press release when you fly your plane for the 8 hour demonstration :)

Good Luck!
