I just downloaded the demo called PRE-Flight simulator. I have my stock TX from my HB CP2 connected via Serial cable and cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work. How is this done?

Thanks

Brain,

AFAIK, demo versions of PRE-Flight only uses first two axes of a joystick. To get the full control, you have to buy a full version of the sim. (Not that I'm recommending to buy it--there are better sims to spend your money on.)

First, you have to make your TX look like a Windows joystick either by buying a USB interface (though few interface support HB CP2 transmitter) or by fiddling with SmartPropo drivers. One you have joystick working in Windows Control Panel/Game Controllers/Joystick properties, you will be able to use the two first axes, aileron and elevator, in the sim.
Here's our old manual how to configure PRE-Flight to work with a joystick:

Bluesky,

Thanks that link really helps me out. I'm still on the hunt on which simulator is best for me but I'm coming up empty handed :(. I really want to spend about $20 and would prefer something I download on the net. I'm not sure which has the best graphics or what to go with. Any suggestions?

There are no decent simulators for $20. R/C simulators are sold in much smaller numbers than regular games, so, each copy costs more than a typical PC game.

You'll have to either be content with freeware FMS, SSS, and CRRCsim (the last two are mostly for gliders) or spend more than that. Used copy of RealFlight G2 is probably the cheapest (you'll have to run it in XP, forget about Vista).

Also, why does it have to be a Serial to USB Connection? All the stores I see sell the "E-Sky Transmitter Trainer Buddy Cord - EK2-0901" and the picture shows just a normal serial cable???

That cord has nothing to do with simulators. It connects 2 transmitters together for training. Different thing altogether ;).

If you have a genuine serial (9-pin D-type) computer connection then it will probably work with FMS but not much else.

The clearview sim is pretty darn good and is only $40.00. You can download from the web. Tns of airplanes and helicopters to download. Only downside is that moveable gear and flaps are not supported yet but Stephen says they should be coming soon.
