Lee, it's nice to see that you guys are perpetuating Ken Reilly's memory by holding this event. Wish I could make it, but it's a bit far for me to travel. :)

Ken really got into the Springer tugs in a big way, and promoted them every chance he could---. :D

I will let the others in the club here in the PNW know, but if it is that weekend reguardless, I won't be down as that is the Seattle Tug races weekend. The next weekend is the show in Annacortes with the Waterfront Festival and will be there for a couple of days. Still, let's see as many Springers CAN make it there. ( me in spirt only).

Mothers Day?

A trip to S.F. in springtime sounds like an ideal Mother's Day present! ;)

No! Absolutely not!

There are two days out of the year that you do not play with your toys. On your wifes birthday, and on Mothers day (if she is a mother).

I wanted to avoid the problem altogether as most of us don't have an understanding spouse with a boat of their own. So the powers in charge are leaning real heavily towards May 4 as the replacement date. Would that work out better?

Ooo, might not be able to make that one!

Lee, will boats other than Springers be allowed to run between contest periods?

CaptLee
Jan 10, 2008, 08:08 PM
Kmot Might get in some free runtimes but no real plans for it. but i never hurts to have something else in the truck in case of Failure of primary boat. It always seems Toes Team has something to try out so it never fails we end up in show and tell time.

In San Francisco, May is a particularly difficult month to plan:
The first weekend is near Cinco de Mayo,
the second is always Mother's Day,
the third is Bay to Breakers (up to 100,000 runners, wannabe runners, costumed and variously unclothed)
and the fourth is Memorial Day weekend.

It's like a banana: throw away the skin and the bone and there's nothing left.

Toes: Remember: a fourth is bigger than a fifth.

Tom: Most of the time there is no problem running a boat outside of an event especially to check it out before running the course, especially a 3x Springer.
When I've run events at Spreckels the rule was "During an event, you can run any boat, any time, if you're not on or conflicting with an operating channel and that you stay off the course and away from the competing vessel(s)." [Can't give the contestant any visible excuses.]
Though SFMYC is "custodian" of the lake, it's a public facility. Even competitors have been known to accidently "turn on tx's" while another was on the course. [Note: no quotes on accidently]

Jan 10, 2008, 11:51 PM
First part of February: Frost Bite Regatta: in the Clubhouse Objective: Show off the winter's building projects. Maybe a test run on the lake afterwards.

only event on web calendar:
Saturday, March 08, 2008 Opening Day (12:00PM)
Might be the famous Stinkpot Ragtop Regatta, where sail and power boats teamup for a relay race around the north side of the lake.

Capt Lee: What's on the rest of the calendar? and when?

Seaway tug event
Tug and tow
For any boat that can tie on a line: (not just tugs)
Italian fisherman rescue
Titanic Rescue
and various springer events hopefully...

I'll have to look into my (the wife's) schedule---. :o

CaptLee do you guys still have the military regatta at the fly casting ponds? If so, when is it?

Schedule is coming, wanted to get everyone's input before publishing. Dimitri Sorry about the Military Regatta failed to get enough interest to make this years schedule. Tugs is correct in running rules, just did not want to promise something I might not be able to do. Kap would like to see you running with the West Coast bunch, so if it is possible from your end Come On Out.

Lee, I'll mark down May 4th., and hope to make it. :)

My problem is that, though I'm retired, they still have me on the list as alternate engineer on construction projects.

That put the kabosh on several plans for things last year---. ;)

I put up with it, because the money is too good to pass up---. :D

Capt Lee, the boys up in the PNW would like to know if their version of the Sringer rules will quallify for your event, or is it based on the SFMYC rules? I am trying to help them understand that this is going to ba an all Springer event.

Keith We will fall back to you folks rules, since the Limited was setup to run in Classic Rules anyway. Super is for any not falling in the original rules, 12 volt, Kort nozzle, multiple rudders, Zee Drives, etc.
Am posting the REVISED date in new posting when I finish this one.
