How much battery power for Giant RC?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am building a Great Planes Giant Stik ARF as a way of getting back into the hobby and flying giant scale. With flaps and other servos, I'll have about 8 Spektrum/JR DS821 servos running off of a 1100mah and a separate 1100mah battery for the Engine ignition. So I have a few questions:
1. Is this enough battery for the ignition?
2. Is this enough battery for the Servos?
3. Do I need to have a battery back up system?

The batteries are new NiCad's. Any thoughts on what I need for batteries, size, type etc. would be appreciated.

Welcome to RCGroups, FlyBig! :)

You'll likely get your best information over in the Giant Scale Airplanes (http://www.rcgroups.com/giant-scale-airplanes-33/) forum.

Thanks Mark. I posted the question on the Giant Scale list.

1100 is fine for the ignition. I run a 1400 on my 6.4 Twin and that is good for 5 flights.

1100 nicad AA cells is on the low side for that many servo's. I would suggest going to a A size cell such as the Sanyo KR-1700AU. 1800 sub C's would not be needed, heavy too.

On my 32.5% Extra, I used to run 2 5 cell 2700 packs and replaced them with 2 2S A123 packs. They are lithium.
