View Full Version : Discussion Theory/testing of Nemisis type tip shape?

I've noticed the wing tip shape from the Nemisis F1 pylon racing plane turning up on gliders, even on fins and stabilzers. Given the pylon racing success of Nemisis, perhaps they are an effective design, but I have never seen any theory or testing. Does anyone know the story behind the tip shape?

Thanks,

Kevin

Prior to the usage of CNC milling, the practicality of forming two wing tips with the same airfoils and tapers along the span, using wood or foam or metal, was not to realistic, such as used by Nemisis, or other speed models, presently offered. Or having a structurally sound and lightweight spar system before the more profilic usage of carbon composite spars. The tip shape has be around , practically for ever in the form of fishes, And used extensivily in surfboard fin designs. But the parameters for fishes and surfboards dont neccessarily coincide with flight, well, sort of. LOL I think its a good shape, just a little more time consuming to build. A blunter form is more friendly in noncomposite builds.
