Well my 8 year old son is really in to birds. Every time he sees one that is different, or hears about in a book/TV show, he hops on google and searches for more information.

Well this Xmas I got him a field guide for our area. Anyone know of good birdwatching web sites? I hit google, and found a million and one. You know how it goes when trying to weed out the good and bad.

Also any tips for feeders/ bird houses. i.e. best for beginners, etc.

THANKS in advance.

Black sunflower and rolled corn in a platform feeder brings everything in from every corner of the county. Put up a suet feeder for the woodies and sit back to watch! :)

We put up Humming bird feeders every year. Last summer my 10 yo had a ladder up between two feeders while about 25 birds flew around his head. Some even landed on his fingers and drank. He realy thought that was cool.

Just a warning to be careful how close you get to some birds, especially the following -

But you should be pretty safe with these -

Enjoy your new hobby, I hope :D
