Hi
I need a switch to switch lights on and off.
I googled this one which fits my needs.
http://www.ef-uk.net/data/rc-switch.htm
The only question is it uses a IRF630..... this I can not get :(
Can I replace it with a INF540A ??? it is the same package and the leg pins are the same.
Do I need to alter the 1K or the 10K resisters ??
Data sheets link below.

Thanks in advance

Neither the IRF630 nor the IRF540 is a good choice for that circuit. The circuit is powered from the 4.8v receiver supply, so you would want a logic level mosfet for the output. The IRF630 and IRF540 are spec'd at 10 volts and may not fully turn on at 4.8volts.

Thanks Robe
Yes I can find it but the shipping handling and other costs for a single unit kills it for me.
Hi Jeffs
That puts the cap on that design :( Can you suggest another transistor or design ??.
I can purchase one but I would rather learn and make my own.

I assume you are looking at Maplin, and it doesn't look like they stock any logic level mosfets. A lot depends on how much current you need to switch. If less than 1 amp, you could probably use an NPN darlington instead of a mosfet. Maplin should stock TIP120 or TIP122. Since it is just for lights, you could also try the IRF540A. While it is not spec'd to work, it would probably work for lower currents.

You could try using an IRLZ14. I've found this works well when driven by a PIC micro, so if the original circuit is running at a 5v logic level (well 4.8 if using an rx pack) then I can't see why this wouldn't work.
The other question is are you switching high current loads, or just running high intensity LEDs ? If using LEDs then you may not need a FET and a simple transistor could be used

You might take a look at :http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6681097/anchors_6681097/mpage_1/key_geek/anchor/tm.htm#6681097
If I can help let me know.

Hi Anthony;
Why not use an old brushed ESC. It can drive the lights directly and you can control the brightness or have it drive a small relay for on off control. Either way it would probably be cheaper than anythng you can make from scratch. Many people have some old speed controls you could probably get for less than $5 or look for a GWS or Castle on ebay or rc groups electronics for sale.
I know several people who use them for night flying. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Try an IRLZ44N as used in this kit.

Or buy the kit.If You are switching low enough currents,He sells 2 smaller units that are already assembled. His homepage is here.
