View Full Version : TF P-51 aileron modification?

I've read several references by people that one of the mods they have made to the TF P-51 (.60) is that they replaced the single aileron servo with dual servos. I'm assuming that they placed these servo's out in the wings with direct links to the aileron rather than using bellcranks as the plans use. This is my first real kit and I'm looking for some guidance on how to achieve this. Has anyone done this and can give me some pointers? - maybe even pictures :)
Thanks!

Hi Matt
Easiest thing going! I mount mine in a stiffened up wing rib - this puts the servo inside, and places the servo arm and control horn on the same rotational plane. Looks better and is cleaner than the current fad of having servos hanging outside of wings etc.
Once you've done this, you'll never go back to messing with bellcranks, torque rods and other bent bits of wire again...
Hopefully the attached sketch will make it clear.

Awesome! That's sweet and simple. Diagram made it easy to understand to.
Thanks!

A lot of people use a mounting of the Airleron servo the same as the Flap mounts.

Look at the way the TF Spit servos are mounted. Two rails glues between ribs, servo sits on blocks glued to a flat piece of ply that fits in a corresponding hole over the rails
