I just found this thread - what happened? Did you contact any of us from the Wellington area?
Maybe we should descend on the Palmerston North slope sometime! (we will ask first though)
Regards
Gordon :)

The flying day was blown out, the wind was from the right direction but would tear the wings off as you tried to get a slopie out of the car, so we headed back up the coast to Shannon and put in a great afternoon.
Maybe we could contact you if we are going to have another wellington day.
cheers
dave.

Well you missed a great day, last Saturday! Lots of people showed up, some flew then left, others carried on talking and flying. Some nice scale gliders had a great time. I flew my Polatis and Renegade. Two Primary Gliders flew nicely in the light to moderate breeze.
A Mig 3 from the SPAD plan was flown - model has a corefute fuselage and EPP wings (5% RG15). Flew well though apparently it likes more wind.
Pete W, Joe (and Jan) Wurts showed up after lunch. Joe was flying a nice moulded glider. He started by exploring the lift band before showing us how fast this thing could go in the lift! Joe was using a very interesting turn technique - almost a reverse roll on the LHS (boy that wing must have lots of carbon in it!)
We all knew that Titahi is not good for Dynamic Soaring - lucky that Joe did not know that as he went right ahead and did it! (we knew he would!) No radar gun present but 2 - 300 km/hr would a be reasonable guess. The model absolutely flashed around! Joe was careful not to allow the model to build too much speed (said that he likes his model) Another of his rules is to limit DS's to 15min sessions! Afterwards he dropped the flaps and cruised into a hand catch!

Sounds like a great day, shame we picked the wrong one.
Is there any chance of getting a contact number for someone so if we decide to come down we might have an itea if the conditions and if anyone will be flying.
cheers
dave.

Hi Dave - re contact no - I'll pm you or something.
Titahi conditions - I use the metar for Mt Kaukau. Knock about 5knts off the Kaukau reading and you will be close for Titahi Bay.
The metar reading can be got from here: http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/metar.shtml Code for Wellington is NZWN
Current reading is this: NZWN 111900Z 02016KT 40KM SKC 17/11 Q1019 NOSIG RMK KAUKAU 35028KT . The bit you want follows the Kaukau, and means the direction is 350 degrees (slighly west of North) and windspeed is 28 knots. Make that 23knots or 30 - 35km/hr at the Titahi cliffs!
The metar can also be found on Leo's weather site's
http://www.wmac.org.nz/trenthamweather/
And a web cam points towards the back of Titahi Bay from his Whitby house:
http://www.wmac.org.nz/trenthamweather/
The will be local flyers at Titahi most flyable weekends, or whenever they get the chance. It is a WMAC designated flying site and we have permission for our activities there, so we prefer to know who is there. Occasionally guys will turn up and fly without communicating, checking frequencies etc. You will be welcome of course.
