I'm sure this is not a new idea but, since I was making them up I thought I would document. Newbies like myself are always looking for tips and tricks.

Yep, that's the ticket!
I've even glued it to the edge of a 1/4" board, useful for getting into tight places.
Use spray adhesive... if the old paper doesn't peel right off when done, a touch of paint thinner will loosen it.
I also like the medium grit foamy sticks from Squadron... not sure if they're not just fingernail boards (!) but they work pretty well when a little flexibility is needed... kind of expensive though.

I custom cut blocks on my miniature table saw for angles and bevels then use
super77 spray mount...

Sanding sticks! Wow, that takes me back to woodwork lessons in primary school. Think I'll make up a few now you've reminded me.

Several years ago, Don from Loyalhanna Dockyard brought a box of fingrnail boards to a club meeting to hand out. They were in various grits, and interestingly, washable. ;)

They have since become a very useful tool in my shop, and I keep a coffee can full of them handy. :)

As these boards are rounded at both ends, it limits their usefulness in close work, but if you cut them in half at an angle, they can get into some very tight corners. :D

You can also use double sided tape instead of a spray or liquid adhesive, there's less mess when the paper is worn out.( read as no chemicals)

You can buy cheap emery boards and cut the ends square. I have used them for decades. I'm too lazy to make sanding sticks.

Try sticking a different grade paper to each side of the sticks. Handy.
Also glue paper to varying diameter Pipes for sanding those difficult concave areas.
Seasons cheer,

The emery boards I use are probably not the cheap kind. :)

They have a tough rubberlike or plastic core, and the grit almost looks like
wet-or-dry sandpaper. ;)

Also, the grit is different on each side---.

And I like my corks. Wooden clothes pegs come in useful too.
