Someone pointed me at this website:

Operation Valiant Shield, 2006.
THREE carrier strike groups (Ronald Reagn, Kitty Hawk, Abraham Lincoln) and a whole lot of wingy things converged for some amazing photo ops... some of my favs attached.

p.s.: NOT Photoshopped (unless the gummint really did fake the Apollo landing...)

I think I own a rivet on one of those planes. Took me 30 years of taxes to pay for it. :p

Have a gray ship that gets shot up every year...
and a hydrofoil that has yet to fly...
May do a modern ship though, most likely an amphibious with an RC LCAC, and a M1 Abrahms. :p
Though, the next ship may be the Dockwise project...

Nice photos, Pat!
Being an old martime history buff, it is amazing to consider the power found in those three carrier groups compared to that of the huge task forces we assembled in the Pacific 60+ years before. Talk about economy of scale...

Also of interest: They talk about the "observers" invited aboard to watch the exercise... from places like China, Russia, India, in case they needed a reminder. Didn't bother inviting the Iranians, they've already seen it all close up...

I was just reading that article about the foreign observers during my lunch break... small world! No wonder the PLAN has a :censored: when it comes to building up their fleet.
BTW, my SIS arrived yesterday & I have to commend you on some fantastic articles as always!

I never tire of tugs as a modeling subject. In fact, I have three of them under the dust cover, waiting for the water to soften up. :)
Chuck, that was a pretty fast delivery on your SIS magazine, considering the normal speed of the Chinese postal service---. :D

Chuck, shouldn't be too hard a task for the PLAN... they don't need to project power around the world, just around an island...
p.s., Thx! November, I assume?

Pat,
...and a few straits here in Asia & the Mideast.
Yes, it was the November's issue that arrived, but am still missing the one with the first of your Yamato build series. I guess some worker deep in the bowels of China Post's mail distribution center is still thumbing through that copy. :D

........ and then maybe a U.S. Navy tug.......... uh oh! :o
Hmmm....maybe I should send you a pm about that.... :D
Tired of tugs??
wash your mouth out with diesel for even suggesting that!
That must have been a once in a lifetime gathering. Never really going to get 3 carrier groups together again after 9/11. :(

Never tire of tugs. .................But I do like the vessels with guns, boats that work for fish/crab, and even those that sink on purpose. ;) :D
cool pictures the Pat.

Sorry guys, but IMHO tugs do only two things well: displace water and look ugly. Having said that, I admit to having built a Midwest "Liberty" tug belonging to my local club (Indianapolis Admirals) for use in providing spectators a taste of RC boating at our organized events (we have 4 of them built for that purpose). The Liberty is a fine model but....
As a career Navyman who's steamed past more lighthouses than many people have driven past telephone poles (OK, a slight overstatement LOL) there's nothing like the Navy's sports car, the destroyer! Good looking, nearly overpowered, and purposeful looking in no uncertain terms to be a warship, a destroyer rocks! Especially the Charles Adams class DDG!!!!! Even my Swift boat command was better looking than the best tug!
my 2 cents. OK, I'm ready for the blast!! LOL :) :) :)

Anyone who doesn't like tugs was never raised on the "little Golden Books" 'Litle Toot ' and 'Scruffy.'
My first powered tug was a motorized Revell 'Long Beach.' It could do U-Turns in the bathtub. Went through a lot of pencells, though.

Swift16...you forgot about the wonderful black smoke and the scuff marks from the fendering.
Everything has its purpose and its place. I for one wouldn't want to be pushed into a berth by a destroyer.....but watching one wrinkle it's nose giving it a try would be interesting. :)

Swift 16,
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. I'm a tug guy but we have to remember to a sub driver we all look the same on the TDC. :p
