Hi all,

Just thought I'd let you know, I got an Airtronics Legend kit for my B-Day!!!! Yeah, I know it isn't really competitive, but I have built 2 in years past, the last one around 1993 or so....I like the look of the airplane and it flies well for me....not to mention I can't afford one of the carbon full house ships or even something like a Victory from NSP. Besides, my girlfriend had her kids outbid me for it on EBay.......It was a total suprise.....have no fear, I'll keep you updated on the progress and I will be putting a 2.4GHz X9303 in it....also HS-125 MG in the wing for flaps and ailerons and HS-81 MG in the fuse.....should help keep the weight down....

Wish me luck!

It's a great plane. The S3021 isn't such a bad airfoil either. I think ole Joe Wurts could beat anyone with the plane! What I mean is that if you fly, fly and fly some more in all weather conditions you can beat the guys with the $1,000 ships.

I agree.......my first one came in at about 83 or 84 ozs. and flew like a champ!!...the second one, however came in at 74 ozs. (in the suggested range) and flew like a toad......after watching other 3021 planes fly, i think they really like the extra speed the added weight causes.....it does make it harder in light lift, but that's when I have my Oly II and my BoT!!

You should think about redesigning the spar with some thick carbon like the Houston Hawk uses and getting rid of some of that heavy aircraft ply they face the front and the rear of the spar with. Also, I would recommend that you stretch the center section to 4 feet to get some more wing area to better support the weight you will have.

Try to come up with a lighter way of operating the elevator. Airtronics pushrod and linkage mechanism is heavy and requires a good bit of weight in the nose to counter balance it. If you get the wing loading down just a little, it acts like a different plane.

I see all these new glass slippers now, but in my mind the Legend is still a great example of what a sailplane should look like.

On the first Legend I built, I built it strictly according to plans. It has now been operated on for a V-tail transplant. I may build a new center section for it as well (like the one I am recommending to you).

In any case, I like Legends too. Good luck with yours however you build it. Post some pictures in the Nostalgia thread too when you get done.
