Is there is any sort of list of boating lakes in the UK? I've found a few by
searching on the web, but I'm wondering if I've missed anything obvious.
I'm in the Hertfordshire area and I'm only looking for somewhere to learn to
sail a RC yacht!
Any clubs within 45 mins drive of Hemel Hempstead?

The MYA's website at http://www.radiosailing.org.uk/ has details of model
yachting clubs which is a start. But I appreciate there will be other waters
as well that you can use independently. The usual advice is to buy a yacht
class that is sailed at your local club, but it sounds as if it might be a
bit late for that!! ;-)

Hello Jeff,
ask Dave Marles at Prestwich Models
marlesd@aol.com
I am sure he knows most UK boating lakes.

Thanks Chris, certainly a useful starting point which I hadn't found.
It's early days for me - just getting a "nearly ready to sail" kit as a
"Boys Toy" for Xmas - so I wasn't thinking of racing just yet, more
somewhere to make mistakes without too many onlookers!

Been there, done that ;-)
I bought a laser and then found a local water to me from the OS map. And
when I went over to it found several other very friendly model sailors who
were quite willing to give a novice some advice. Its also handy having
someone else there to hep you retrieve your boat if it gets stuck on a
shallow bank!! So don't be afraid of sailing with others. We all have to
start some time.

The only issue of note is to check radio frequencies - you'll anger
members on the spot if you 'flame on' and start interfering with
somebody. R/C sailors, if not in the middle of a race, are among the
friendliest people anywhere. If they ARE in the middle of a race?
*grin* Keep back!!!
See if you can find Round Pond - probably the most famous sailing
milieu in Great Britain. It's akin to Redd's Pond in the US,
birthplace of the Marblehead - natch - in Marblehead, Mass.
