Is it paractical to use a monokote type product to cover solid foam wings instead of using wing tape? Never used either, just getting ready to build a model with solid foam wings and didn't like the tape look.

Do not use Super Monokote on foam!!!! It needs too much heat for it to stick on the foam and will melt the foam while u try to put it on!!! Use something like Econocote. It is a low temperature covering and will adhere to the foam without melting it. There are other low temp films out there that are lighter too. It depends on how much u want the plane to weigh. Check with your local hobby shop or with someone that know about what covering u need for your particular project!

I just used Flite-Kote (sold by Hobby Shack, now Hobby People) on a GP Slinger wing. I covered the top like this: sprayed with 3M 77, cut the covering with overage by 1/2", tacked it down to the bottom of wing with iron. Then used a hair dryer on Hi, going from center to tip. I.e., DIDN't use iron to shrink the covering.

The wing looks pretty straight. I need some feedback. I think Monokote would work, with the above technique.

I'm a 1st-timer. You mean the iron is used to shrink the covering?? I built a battery pack, & used the shrinkable wrap to encase the batteries. I used the hair-dryer, works great.

If it's EPP, use 3M77 and Ultracote. Towercote works pretty well for EPP as well.

I have used Econokote to cover a foam wing on a RC Combat SSC plane. It worked fine. Just don't set the iron too hot.
