I would like to build a tug............What would I need to get to pull me around the lake in a canoe? I that a stupide Idea. I was thinking mabey a little gas motor. Im not wanting to go fast. Just thought it would be cool.

Electric is far easier, cleaner and just as easy to achieve what you want.
Use a larger high torque motor, Car Heater Motors are Good...Bow wave speaks for itself..
Tug a little over 1M should do the Trick..

Battery on this one is from a Gopher Wheelchair (30 amp hr I think) .. Runs at least 5-6 hours normal days sailing..
Towing increases the Amps so runtime depends on what you put the boat through.

I can hear it now: "Gramps, you using your wheelchair today or can I borrow the battery?"

Welcome to RCgroups.
3 or 5 to one gearing from a good motor to the prop is what it seems to take.
Pick the tug that you like the looks, and get building.
12 volt 7ahr battery lasts longer than most modelers stay at the pond. ;)

sweet.........I was doing some yard work today and though that my wheelborow looks like a tug boat hull, I also think my father has and old troller moter from his bass boat.

I think I could cut about 8 inches out of the middle of the wheelborrow and weld it back together.
