Actually I'd say it's not cause my local hobby shop has plenty of TL-01's
for sale it's natural that they also have plenty of TL-01 parts.
I can't seem to find a good distributor of the TC3 (non RTR model Sport
edition).
I'm also looking at the TB-01 is this a good unit? I'm looking at this
because I did a full ball bearing upgrade to the TL-01 a while back (24 ball
bearing total) and now it seems that the TB-01 can actually use the same
bearings 10 of them at least meaning I'd only have to buy 3 extra bearings
that's a big savings.

From what I know of the Tamiya range, the TB-01 (particularly with
the double-deck chassis upgrade and other tweaks) is a pretty
serious touring car.
From what I know of touring cars, most of the chassis can be made
to be competitive - it probably depends more on finding a car that
suits your driving style than having the 'best' car.
So, assuming you can get hold of Tamiya spares easily I'd say there's
no reason not to give it a go - if nothing else, you might be a little
different from everyone else :-)

I was unaware that the TB-01 was actually a serious touring car that's a
definet plus!

I agree with everything but the TL-01 being competative... I mean you can do
it but with alot of CASH!
The TL-01 from what I can tell looses power several times from it's gearbox
design and it's frame seems suited more towards being able to take a hit
then actual racing.... please comment if you think these are wrong.
TL-01's however surprisingly common in my area every hobby shop is
guarenteed to have them so I'm think the TB-01 since it's a close cusin will
have many of the same advantages.
As for the TA04 those are really expensive and don't seem to have very good
compatability with TL-01 parts.
HPI RS4 PRO although I really like the look of this chassis I can't find any
at my hobby shop.
TC3 once again can't find any at the hobby shop.
Does anyone actually have a TB-01 and can tell me their experience?
My TL-01 makes sooo much noise when you run it makes me scared that the
gears are killing themselves.

I'm not absolutely certain, but from what I've seen they look decently
adjustable (like a wide range of gear ratios) and IIRC I've heard
they can be made to go pretty well.

Ah - you got me there! I wasn't including the TL-01 - that's not a
touring car, it's a Tamiya beginners' car ;-)

Not at all. IIRC it's got the ancient Tamiya "Bent Coathanger(TM)"
drivetrain, and a split chassis which reminds me somewhat of cars
like the Boomerang and ThunderShot ;-)

If I've got my Tamiyas right, the TB-01 is the Predator/TC3 copy
with a central propshaft, offset motor and bevel drive on each
diff - so pretty much totally unrelated to the TL except for being
a Tamiya. Having said that, Tamiyas are usually superbly engineered
so that's no bad thing. Just don't count on being able to swap any
of the parts except the bearings and screws.

Well bearings are the most expensive expecually for the TL-01 24 costs a
bundle and to be able to re-coup 10 of them for the TB-01 is still a good
deal (buying 3 new bearings shouldn't be so bad)
