I am looking for a wiper block that is simular to the ones used in the old tyco slotcar controllers. I want to use it was a wiper block for a varable resistor.
let me know if you have any sources.
thanks
Mike

What amp rating? the Tyco burnt out easily when used for other purposes - check out the RC Car variable resistor type units, very easy to set up. e.g.
Speed Controller with variable resistor (http://www.acehobby.co.nz/ossb2/root/OSSBEC1/showitem.asp?PID=1090)
Speed Control Heavy Duty with twin battery connector (Sea Dagger & Triton) (http://www.acehobby.co.nz/ossb2/root/OSSBEC1/showitem.asp?PID=1129)

Something along these lines. http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=00281A/137.0.6083.564.0.0.0
Back in the early days of 1/12 scale R/C cars, this is all we had.

I dont need anything to crazy 1watt to 1/2 watt just using it to control a transistor. looking for like 400 ohms

I'll bet you could make a dremel tool brush do the job.....Might need to file it to size....!!

What you mean a dremel brush. I am looking for the coil that the wiper goes on. I am looking to making my own control but i dont know where to source somthing like the one in the pick the long white coil.

Does it have to be linear? You can easily find rotary wirewound potentiometers for various voltages and wattages. Another source for a similar wirewound potentiometer for a fairly high voltage-current requirement is the foot pedal used to regulate the speed of sewing machines. I use an old one on my minidrill, not really good to regulate the speed but cheap and readily available

i had the idea of using a pot but needs to be a good quality one that can handle a lot of rotations any other ideas for sourcing somthing like the one in the pic.

Do you think that the block in the pic of the controller might be the inside of a ceramic wirewound resistor.
