View Full Version : Main blade suggestions

Hello all,

I need some suggestions as to the type of main blades to get for my new
helicopter. It is a JR Voyager 50. The "specs" call for 600s but Horizon
is "suggesting" 580s. I already have a pair of V-Blade 600s (symmetrical,
14mm root, 4mm bolt hole) on order, but, it looks like it will be at least
another two to three weeks before they show up. I would really like to be
flying before then. I was wondering if I should get some semi-symmetrical
or reflex blades just so I would have a choice since I will end up with two
pairs of blades. Any thoughts? I guess I am an intermediate flyer that is
comfortable with mild aerobatics ( rolls, loops, some flips, stall turns,
etc.) I am currently able to fly continuous inverted flight on my sim but I
have yet to do that with one of my helicopters. My current style is to use
up enormous amounts of sky zooming around as opposed to these guys who are
really good that can perform all of their stuff in a small box right in
front of themselves.

BTW I live in the states and my engine has not been run in yet.

Thanks,

Douglas Kaip

Oh yeah, do you have tip shape suggestions as well?

Fit the blades you've already got Doug, but add a degree of pitch to all
your current values just to help stop excessive overspeeding.

That makes things even better. Don't try to run the motor in in a single
flight and then rev the bollocks off it trying out your new skills. Give the
engine a chance by running in carefully, and one way is to keep the amount
of "load" on the engine under control. Shorter blades will do that so long
as again, yu DON'T over-rev the thing.

Makes no difference at this stage. Square cut tips make more noise than
curved and they're a bit more "snappy", but the shape of tip wouldn't affect
my decision to use them. If they're square, they're square, but they'll
still get flown. In other words, FLY the blades, don't spend time looking at
them:-)

So, you are suggesting that I just go ahead and wait another three weeks for
the ones I ordered to show up?

I do not actually have any blades at the moment. That is my problem. I
have some on order and those are the ones that will hopefully arrive in a
few weeks ( the vblades sym 600s ).

Sorry Doug, my piss poor reading strikes again (I missed the "on order" part
of your original post:-((

So.... I'd stick with what JR say (use 600's) and not what Horizon say (buy
580's) coz the reason they gave this advice isn't clear. Are they suggesting
that because they know the Venture and have discovered that the 580's work
better, or is it because they don't have 600's??

I'd keep the one on order, but I'd buy a pair "for now" and wouldn't worry
too much about them being exactly the right length or about the tip shape.
Believe me, having two sets of blades isn't a problem, particularly if one
set is symmetrical (great for 3D aero's) and the other set are reflex
(SUPERB for high speed zooming and any OTHER kind of aerobatics apart from
pure 3D. Loops, roll's normal inverted circuits and auto's (especially
auto's) are no problem with the reflex.

Hope that clears things up a bit :-))
