No. Only the OEM Phoenix cable will work

when you buy phoenix it comes with everything you need to hook it up to your tx.

You asked the question "can I buy this and hook up my Futaba" - the answer is yes you could use it with a Futaba tx. But that interface won't work with any of the top end simulators such as XTR, Phoenix, G4, G3, AFPD etc etc.
OK I'll put you out of your missery... All these simulators use their own dedicated hardware interface which not only provides the means to hook up your transmitter, but also provides the copy protection for the software. Thus if you try running any of the above with out the dedicated hardware it wont work.
If you actually need the technical explanation its because each one of these simulators use a dedicated protocol to encode the PPm signals from the transmitter (or controller) and then send them to the PC.
