Never pull the blankets or comforter up to your face. They don't get changed too often. At least the sheets are laundered and changed daily.

I've seen more and more hotels not changing the bed linens every day. They have this posted on a card in the room, they say that it is a cost saving measure.
They may not give you clean glasses to drink from but they sure will steal your medication if you leave it out. These managers get a bonus for every dollar that thay save each month. It happened where I used to work, the managers get greedy and save in any way that they can just so they can get a bigger and bigger bonus every month.

No kidding! Same here, (different business) but if you think a manager or the great majority of employees are even remotely on your side, forget it. Doing what is "right' by your customer can get you fired these days.
The video sure grossed me out, but it sure didn't surprise me and neither. for that matter, did the reaction of the hotels when confronted. They know very well that few will ever see the video and fewer still will care enough to remember past tomorrow. Those vids should be spread far and wide.

Our disease expert says drinking out of these guest room cups and glasses is like being at a restaurant and, eating off the last person's plates. "And having the waiter come over and say well here let me clean that off for you. And taking the towel out of their pocket and wiping it off and putting it back down on your plate; that's what it is like"
As a veteran of seven years of university which six of those years where spent working in various restaurants and bars that was pretty light weight. It's common practice to-
Polish cutlery with methylated spirits without a post-wash off
Descale glassware in the special pink cleaning stuff and not rinse it off before drying
"ahh the milk is only two days past the expiry, we'll just add come extra coffee they won't notice"
"Yep Guinness is 'spose to taste THAT way"
Wipe the chopsticks clean, soap will taint the flavor next time there are used
"No the salad has wilted as it was served on a hot plate by mistake"
The number of times before opening or after closing when somebody as knocked over the mints or toothpicks on to the floor and just scooped them up and put them back ready for the next set of customers
"Did anyone disinfect table 6 after the baby vomit?"
"And did the waitress throw out her table wipe after wiping table 6 down? no?..."
Desert waitress has her hand in the chocolate mousse bowl "What's the matter?" - "My nose ring just fell into the chocolate mousse I was making, oh here it is" continues mixing
Barman with bad dandruff is head banging to the music while mixing drinks
The amount of "stuff" that has fallen into the bar ice-box and the ice hasn't been replaced
Servicing the PMX/Soda Fountain - "There's a dead cockroach in the nozzle..."
"What are you doing?" - "I dropped the powdered egg mix" - "then why are you sweeping it up with the dust pan and not putting in the rubbish rather than back in... oh never mind"
A kitchen hand serving the tomato and basil soup has a blood nose and doesn't yet know, nor as anyone told him
"Hey look at what I found in the bottom of the deep frying unit!"
Dish-washer serviceman - "You know that it has a filter that needs replacing after XXX number hours of use?
"That's not ideally the most hygienic place for a 'quickie'..."
The asbestos ceiling tile above the food prep counter has been disintegrating and no one has questioned why there is 'white stuff' always on the counter and plates
"You know that dark spot on the ceiling over the service counter? it's dripping now..."
And when was the last time your heard?
"Sorry can you choose something else from the menu? The chef just dropped the last fish fillet on the floor"
"Sorry the kitchen is slow tonight, the head chef is away sick"
"Yes it is fresh... fresh out of the tin/freezer"
And pray if you're one those types who states to the waiter and/or chef that your intolerant to something and it has to be cooked in such a fashion that holds up the kitchen on the busiest night of the week. 'Cause if you're allergic to whatever guess what was used in the unwashed frying pan before the chef cooks your meal :D

After my oldest brother retired him and his wife bought a small motel in Northern Wisconsin. The previous owners hadn't built a very good reputation. For a long time he had to work extra hard to build a positive reputation. They have one housekeeper and he works with her cleaning rooms. Maybe thats the solution. The owners and managers should get in there with the mop and broom. I'd pay cash money to see Paris Hilton swabbing out a bathroom. If you think this story is bad you should hear some from the other side. For a few you would need to make the kids and pets leave the room.
For me, I'm packing Dixie cups in my luggage.

While I never worked in the 'Hospitality' industry, my wife did work in a restaurant during college and I have worked in a number of industries; our experience is that the rot usually starts at the top! While upper management and/or the owners are usually able to claim 'plausible deniablity' because they didn't directly sanction the 'cost saving' measures, they are the ones who create the environment for these things to happen.
Middle (the regional) and lower (district and unit level) are no innocents when things like this happen. Many times it is their ideas being implemented. And of course, if anyone gets caught, it's the employee who gets fired, not management. Cynical? I wish I could say I was, but I've seen it in one form or another for years. The the tight economy just makes it worse.
In one of my jobs, the pressure to cut costs and boost sales by any means was ferocious, unrelenting and one of the major reasons I left.
One of the most telling things was a conversation I once overheard about how someone had stayed up almost all night worrying, trying to come up with an excuse to cover what she had done for a customer because she had been "called on the carpet" and it " ...would have been my job if I had told them {her bosses} that I did it because it was the right thing to do for the customer."
For me, I'm packing Dixie cups in my luggage.
Yep, yep, yep
