Plans for beginners.

Hey guys, I'm looking into model boats as a hobby, and wanted to know if
you guys had any plans that would be best for a guy that's never built a
boat, and doesn't want to get in over my head.

Hey Andrew,

I can vouch for those plans, that is a fantastic hull. The plans are
for a 48inch version however I scaled mine down to 26 inches and it is
electric.

This hull is so good in fact that I can hold it at wide open throttle,
it looks like it is going to get really loose and then it just settles
itself down on its own. Kinda spooky really. I still have to add
strakes to it, but as is, it is a fun thing for sure.

Mate, I haven't taken a lot of photos of the inside and the transom for
a little while now, somebody asked me for them the other day as well so
I suppose I had better share, the only ones I do have are build photos.

I run a brushless 540 sized inrunner 3200kv that I got from ebay, it is
basically a feigao copy and is a pretty hot motor overall(would run
better on a 2800kv). I run on 10 IB3600 cells, with an X632 prop and
it is pulling 65amps constant which is just over the rated amperage for
the motor but it seems to handle it ok, with the big water jacket. I
log my runs with an eagle tree V2. The esc is a mystery 80amp which
from what I read is a good and cheap sport esc, I have loaded it up way
over 100amps on a big prop and it survived. Can be a bit of a pain to
configure, but I seem to have it going ok now. Motor and esc are
watercooled of course. All of my hardware is homemade as far as the
strut and rudder and motor bracket are concerned. All up cost about
$400 to build minus radio.

just a couple of shots of my transom setup and the inside. Not a lot of
room to work with this baby so things are jammed in tight. Functional
though and nothing seems to foul up too much surprisingly. As you can
see, the packs sit on either side of the motor, at the position they
are at now, it runs loose but conservative and the tabs are at 0
degrees. When I move to run on Lipo, I will probably run 3S 2200 x2
packs in parallel and I will be able to shift the packs forward a
little for better COG, it will either be that or a new lower KV motor
and 2 X 2S packs in series.
