I am currently finishing a P-40 from RCM plans by Gordon Whitehead and kinda like the T-6 I was wondering if anyone has built or flown flown this plane? I am going to be using an OS .15 instead of the recommended OS .10.

Hi
I designed the P-40 you're building, and it flew very well. I remember that one thing it did was fish-tail if it hit turbulence, but that was no big deal. Another thing was the noise from the hollow trunking under the wing centre-section; the slipstream blowing over the access hole for the wing bolt made the trunking whistle like an organ pipe.
When I was flying .10-.15 powered ships a while back, I did ocasionally up-motor a plane from a .10 to a .15 and enjoy the greater power.
With the greater power of the OS .15, for which I'd recommend 10% nitro juice, and a 7x6 prop, your P-40 should hand launch easier than mine.
Hope this helps

HI Gordon,
Glad to hear from you. I had built the P-40 once before in the mid eighties when the plane showed up in RCM but never got to fly it due to work and family issues and same reasons it went away unnoticed. Now I am at it again and I am really looking forward to the maiden flight which should be on the 26th of this month at approximately 0800. By the way I also have the plans for the P-38 you drew up but lack the nerve to jump into it at this time. Part of the reason I have a .15 for the P-40 is that I purchased two for the day the P-38 gets built.
I wasn't bucking your plans by using a larger engine, it is just that I always seemed to be able to get out of trouble in the past with a bit more power.
Thanks for the info and will be glad to hear from you again.
