This may not be an issue with your intended use, but note that Minwax's Polycrylic is not a polyurethane and is not fuelproof - at least not to the glow fuels used in the US. I haven't tried it with diesel fuel.
Flecto's Varathane is a polyurethane and is very fuelproof. I even used it on my engine test stand.

Hi James,
Not sure if this thread is dead, but i found a product which is manufactured in the UK and Ireland called Ronseal. Since it's from the UK (although it's a subsidiary of a US company called Sherwin-Williams) i wonder if it might be available there?
The Quick Drying Clear Varnish is a Water based acrylic, and i think they also have WBPU for floor work. It's called Diamond Hard Clear Floor Varnish.
Not sure if these will work, but i am going to try it out soon. Will tell you if anything adverse happens... like smouldering soggy pieces of foam... hahaha...

I think you nailed it. When I first started reading about pollycryllic, the author was from the UK. He was using a floor finish, and I believe the name. Ronseal" was mentioned.
Ask your question on RCMF. I'll bet that you'll get a positive response there.

Hi James, Tom
Quick update:
The Ronseal Quick Drying Clear Varnish works quite well.. Easy to apply and dries within an hour to touch dry and and about 2 - 3 hours to be able to sand.
So if you're gonna get the product.. PRESS...
