I want to use a solenoid to press the shutter on my camera (the camera doesn’t have any attachment for remote shutter release.) I think I can do it if I can find a solenoid that can exert a one pound push over about 1/4 inch using a 9 volt battery. I thought such a solenoid would be easy to find, but all the solenoids that I have found so far are either too weak in strength, require too much current (or voltage), or are expensive.
Someone suggested a door lock actuator from a car door. I’m going to try that, but I’m afraid that will use too much current for a 9 volt battery to provide.
Does anybody have any other specific suggestions where I can find a solenoid with the specifications above?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,
Don't know how you are going to use this...
But what about a standard RC servo? Even the mini ones should give you more than 1lb pressure over 1/4" .
Cheers

Thanks, Zlatko, for your response.
I'm very new at this. Can you give me a specific suggestion of a mini RC servo that might work and where to obtain it?
Thanks !!!

A friend of mine gave me a door lock actuator out of a wrecked PT Cruiser and it works perfectly!! Sample test results:
Lift: 1 pound 8 ounces
Voltage: 9 volts
Amperage: 1.1 amps
Resistance of coil: around 5 or 6 ohms
Best of all, it was free !

Thanks for the address. If only they had blinking red LED's to go with the green ,white & yellow.

For flashing LEDs try here,

or flashing multicolor LED,

about 2/3 of the way down the list.

but how much does it weigh? and how about the circuit to actuate it?
a micro servo of about 6 gram weight would be more than enough, would use less than half the current and wouldn't need any extra circuitry to work. all for $10-$15.
