Hi - I went back into the forum and clicked on the link. It worked for me, but since I'm the one who posted it, I'm not sure my computer would give the best test. Please try typing the url into your browser window - www.tinybritelights.com.

I hope this works - please let me know.

Well, I'm stumped! I even opened a new window and was able to launch the site. Do you have any way to use IE, just to test if it is a problem with firefox? I may have to go back to my web guy to make sure we're compatible with both IE and firefox.

Thanks,

Hi All,

My web hosting company is doing a server migration this weekend so that's why my site is off-line right now. They anticipate having all sites back up later tonight or first thing in the morning.

Sorry about the confusion - I should have waited to post my message...

I do hope you all will still check us out!

Sorry for the inconvenience - please check the site again later today.

While the site is down and we're waiting can you tell us a bit about them? Power source, weight, price, etc? I was just yesterday thinking that since this time of year the wind seems to blow all day and is dead calm at night it would be cool to drag out the old Slow Stick, put lights on it and fly it in the school parking lot under the lights.

Well, in the mean time, can you tell us about the product? What does the whole system weigh? How many lights can I use? I would like to do a simulated afterburner in the tailpipe of one of my EDF jets. Do they come in orange? How many volts do they take? Current?
Thanks,

Hey Everyone,

Here are some more details about Flight Lights:

Power source - just plug into a spare channel on the receiver (4.5-5.5 nom)
Current - 15 mA average
Weight - 2 grams
Price $19.99 - $24.99 (3 LEDs included in standard sets - red, green, white)
No soldering required - the LEDs are already wired

We love to do custom work! Just send us an email to tinybritelights@wowway.com and let us know what you need.

Thanks,
Jill

Question? The tail strobe in the video. Is that the white light that comes in the standard set or is the white in the set the landing light? I would love to put these on my funjet. Nav lights on the wingtips, White nose or landing light, Strobe on top of each tail, and a red light inside the tail just behind the motor mounting plate. That would be slick.

RCA I once saw an F-4 phantom Gas Ducted fan plane with bulbs around the exhaust that cut on and varied in brightness to do exactly what you want to do. Only problem is it was probably about 8-10 years ago in a Model Airplane News magazine. But if he was able to do it back then there is no reason it couldn't be done now given the more advanced technoligies available today.

I took the samples I purchased from you in Chicago to the JR indoor in Columbus OH and had them on my CX2. Everyone loved them and I have several sets to mail out when I get home. One guy even gave me a check for the cost plus shipping so I can mail them to him. He's going to install them on a CX2 and take it to Hawaaii with him where he will train several new people how to fly helicopters.... exposure in the Pacific sounds good to me... I should be back home tommorow or Wednesday. Today, vyceroy and I are going to visit the AMA in Muncie IN... Talk to you later. Thanks..

They say they are working on it 24/7 to try to get all the sites back on line asap. But obviously our site is down again. They are apologizing to me and I am apologizing to all of you for this inconvenience!

In the meantime, our products were listed in the new products section on RC Universe on Sept. 5th. So to get more information on Flight Lights, please visit http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/newproductslist.cfm

How do they compare with Curtek Lights? I still morne their demise. They were wonderful lights, very easy to set up and weight was negligible.

Hi GeorgefromVT,

I visited the old Curtek website - looks like they offered some great products. I hope you'll consider trying Flight Lights as a replacement. From what I could tell, Flight Lights differ from Curtek in 2 main ways:
1. We use smaller, surface mount LEDs
2. We use smaller gauge wire

However, similar to Curtek, Flight Lights plug into a spare (or Y adapted) channel on the receiver, require no soldering to install, and draw very little power (15mA).

In the first post on this thread you can see a close up of one of the LED bulbs attached to the wire.

Right now we offer strobing and non-strobing red/green/white navigation light sets. Our landing light system will be available around the beginning of '08 - or sooner.

Sincerely,
Jill Ingram

I was not familiar with Curtek until GeorgefromVT asked about them in a post. Looks like they were very well made systems!

I've been on the phone with my web hosting company - they are still having problems with the "server migration" that they started over the weekend. They won't even give me an ETA of when the site will be back up. I'm so sorry to have to ask everyone to check back later. I am losing my patience with this company, however my hands are tied for the time being.

I have to say that your webhost should be on the chopping block. I've never had this much downtime in the 8 years or so I have been working with various hosting companies.

I hope you get it working soon. The product looks good and hopefully you'll be able to offer more advanced systems and expansion options in the near future.

It is good to hear that you are going to add landing lights to your product in the near future. I reviewed the Curtek light system back in April of 2003 here in the Ezone. I still have two working sets and my Beaver used in that review is still Curtek equipped and flying. It is great fun to toggle the landing lights on and off in the twilight. It is nice to see that the gap of a good light lighting system is being filled. When/if their website starts to work. I have attached a picture of a plane equipped with the Curtek lights. Mike

As a retired software developer who spent his last years in the profession writing for, hosting, and contracting web services, I agree with Vintauri 100%. GeorgefromVT,

I am sorry that we have lost any potential business from you over this. But of course you must purchase from companies that you have confidence in. This is also the position I am in, and have decided to switch webhosting companies, not only because of lost business, but more importantly because of the damage to our reputation.

We will be working hard to recover from this. If any of you here on RC Groups is willing to give us another chance - thank you. For those of you who would rather work with another company, I can point you to RAM Products (http://www.ramrcandramtrack.com) , and MAXX Lights (http://www.maxxprod.com) as potential options.

Guys you can't blame the company that pays for hosting other then dumb luck for getting the bum company. I have always stuck with the larger players such as Godaddy.com for my hosting as it's releatively cheap but the customer service is awesome and based within the states. So you can understand them (even with a southern accent :) )

For people not wanting to make their own light sets this will be a economical option for adding some lights to any project.

I just hope they can get their site up soon and focus on the landing light feature instead of dealing with a bum hosting company.

Keep us informed Jill.

Good grief a lot of you must live in Utopia. Here in the real world folks have occasional technical difficulties that are unavoidable and out of one's span of control. You think that they wanted this to coincide with their product's debut? If anyone thinks that a problem with a "subcontractor" necessarily means there is a problem with the root company is lacking in life experiences.

Jill, IF you have lost any customers, I'll negate one of them with an order. No worries as I am sure y'all will sort it out.

Looks like a cool product and I look forward to purchasing a set!

Hi Everyone,

Here are some answers to questions that were posted earlier today:

GeorgefromVT - If you'd like additional lights on your set - send us an email with what you'd like (how many lights, what colors, and what lengths of wire) and we'll send you a quote for a custom order. You can send the email via our website - just click on the "Custom Orders" area or email it directly to me at tinybritelights@wowway.com

Pattern Guy - you asked about adding weights to the lights. Would you please explain more about what you would want. I'm not sure I understand, since our aim has been to make these as light-weight as possible.

gsk1170 - we use very small, surface mount, LEDs. I've attached a picture so you can see a close up. Also, if you look at the very first posting in this thread, you'll see another close up picture of the LED bulb and wire.

Thanks everyone. I hope I've answered all your questions so far.

Wow, that's light. These little lights might be perfect on the LoLo. Would like to get a couple landing light added though.

Yes, I was wondering what the lights weigh.. That's all.. Alot of us that build our own planes would have concern for how much they weigh.. As we try to keep them as light as possible..

2 g is very light.. Nice.. I found the info under the Product Specs.. I just didn't look hard enough I guess..

Thanks for the reply!!

Everyone should post pictures of their planes here all lit up with these lights when they finish them. I would really like to see them. Just a suggestion.

Great idea.

It's official: I'll be doing a review of the lights for EZone. I'm thinking of testing them on two of these three planes, at least:

1. GWS E-Starter.

2. LittleBirdz LoLo.

3. One of Stevens Aeromodel's indoor/backyard planes.

Feel free to provide suggestions, and I'll be happy to try to include them in the review. I know there was some interest in trying them on a LoLo. :)

Well I have a set of lights on my LoLo already but I'll be trying them on my Parkscalemodels Cessna and Monocoupe.

Now if Zeke gets his 727 design done I'm hoping to get a custom set done for that one too.

I'm thinking just about everything that can be done has been done on the E-Starter. I vote for the LoLo and the SA bird.

I'm leaning toward that, too. :)

Besides, I'd be able to get better video on those, since I can keep them closer to me.

Anyone decide on these lights yet? I guess I need to start building my LoLo so I can measure for wire lengths.

Frank,

I might be able to let you know toward the end of the week. :)

I can get some measurements of mine if it would help. But you really should build it anyway :p

I just ordered a small set for Model Aero's new Cessna 310 Twin (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770117) profile. I am reviewing it as well for Ezone, but I think the lights will be a perfect fit on this general aviation plane. ;)

Spackels/Steve,

No worries. Building season is fast approaching and I'll know soon enough. Thanks for the offer though.

Since there are a number of choices for lights out there, I'd just like to know how these are. They look very tiny so that's a plus, but since they are very small, I'm just wondering how right they are. Looking forward to the reviews.
