Looks like it can do up to 8s A123 but balance only up to 6s. Does the balancing function operate at all in LiFe mode ?

At this time, the "balance" feature is enabled for the Li-Po/Li-lon/Li-Mn portion only. However, new firmware that will be available very soon (free via the included software program that will automatically download it from the MaxPro server) will enable the balance charging of the A123 side as well (up to 6S).

Scott

The 100W output is certainly a worthwhile improvement over most other offerings in the 2s-6s range. However at $170 the Hyp 0610i looks a better deal to me for folks that need higher output power (250W/10A). Plus it has the potential to be networked with another unit to expand up to 12s. Mind you, the 0610i does not come with a PC interface AFAIK and probably not user-upgradeable firmware.

Although there are slightly more expensive solutions available that list higher charging rates, some obvious factors need to be considered when choosing a quality battery station:

• Is the power regulated properly to live up the published specifications?
• How accurate is the onboard voltage/current monitoring resolution?
• Does the hardware include a temperature sensing solution (stock)?
• Does the hardware offer PC connectivity with the cable included (stock)?
• Does the hardware offer robust PC based monitoring software (stock)?
• Does the hardware offer free online firmware upgrades on the fly?

We feel the X6 stands out as a very solid performer that is very reasonably priced based on the quality level maintained and solid features offered. Most importantly, it won’t keep you wondering if the cell voltage or current ratings are truly accurate or if you’re going to damage your battery because the hardware didn’t perform properly due to poor logic programming and/or overstressed regulators operating outside their manufacturer ratings.

The bottom line:
If a higher-end reliable, stable, and very accurate 2-6S Li-Po battery station with emerging A123 support is desired, the X6 is a great device to consider. With free shipping within the USA in addition to the included extras, it is also a good value.

Regards,
Scott
