Well finally just about finished the mini 22"WS Depron MiG-17. All I need to do now is weather it a little John Morgan style.
It's hard for me to achieve the metal skin look on foam. I tried a mixture of Gunze Sangyo #2 white & #8 silver also used Model Masters, steel, aluminum and flat black. She came out ok and maybe it will be a little better if I do a wash and weathering on it.
Anyone have any ideas? In the test flights I've had on this bird she's an awseome flyer I love it. My next bird will be a MiG-21 if I could only paint like John Morgan he is the master and I have learned a ton from this site and from seeing how he and others Vyceroy, Tyson and others do it so well.
I placed it beside my big MiG and my 22"WS Vampire. I only used different shades of Model Masters aluminum paint on the Vampire. I like the looks of the Gunze silver & white better.
Thanks to all...
Pete

I think it looks great Pete. I don't do many silver, alum. planes and it's very hard to find it in the household paints I use. So I resort to Krylon metallic silver. It does weather nice and matte coats give it a nice semi tarnished look. But to do that you have to have a barrier and that is called WEIGHT! That size bird wouldn't like the many coats of poly, talc, etc to form the barrier. She looks good as it is and flies well....so be it! Nice job. :)

Did some weathering John Morgan style. I may have too much though. So I'll wash some of the black chalk off.
Also put in a light quick and easy landing light. Used an RS LED and a 3V mini battery no switch neede I slip a small piece of copper under the wireto make contact and slip a small piece of styrene inbetween when I don't want to fly with it.
Flew the Mini MiG and the Biger MiG today and it was really sweet though I did slightly damage the Mini it's second flight when I took my eye off it. :( Only minor damage.
Also fixed my Bf-109 D and flew it. Back in April I lost it doing a low roll. She flew great today.

Thanks Guys. Work on the MiG-21 is slow but coming along. I've got to vac form the canopy, make a new pilot head and tons of other stuff. I did work on the ailerons and servo installation. Servos will be mounted in the 5mm Depron undersurface of the wings.
I've been shootng down some 21's &17 in Wings over Vietnam. :D

Pete, you have another winner on your hands. The light is a nice touch. With all the soviet aircraft you have done, have you considered a Pe-2?

D-Rock,
A Pe-2 would be cool esp. like John Morgan's 2 or 3 he did a while back. I love the weathered white winter camo. John did an awesome job on his.
Oh, so many cool planes so little time.

Mine was a Pe-2. It was a decent flier but had cheap brushed GWS motors and wasn't a real ball of fire. And I didn't consider it my best work either, sort of rushed. I meant to change to BL but never got around to it. Used the gear out of it for another build and she sat around and collected hangar rash. When we made the move to Tn, I had to let go of something and she didn't make the cut. I might build another someday. It has nice lines and alot of wing.
