I see these short videos of guys DS'ing around tree lines. My question is how do you start getting into the groove with tall trees. Do they first winch launch far above then drop in or what.

Second question....do you need an "awsome" front side slope hill to DS on. Or just good air and enough backside to cut your resistance down coming round. Help me out can you:)

I assume you haven't DSed before.

Tree DS isn't the easiest DS to do. it is quite often tight and not as powerful as hill generated DS. So it isn't ideal for first timers.

have a look at, http://studweb.studserv.uni-stuttgart.de/studweb/users/lrt/lrt28575/DS_zdo.mpg

they bungee up. but if you have a big model I would suggest a winch. I have also done a discus launch then dive down into a quarry.

If you haven't already have a read of

www.dynamic-soaring.co.uk

it is my website and is now hosted by rcgroups. It should give you a better understanding of how DS is flown. If not ask away here I am sure one of us can help.

Thanks Ade for the info. That video clip explains it all. Good stuff.

Ade, what moldies have you been able to discus launch? I've been tempted many times to discus my Nemesis but have been too chicken to try it, as gliders without sufficient tail moment invariably end up, upside down, pointed down at the hill and with zero airspeed, if they yaw too much with the launch.

You will need a model designed/modified for DLG. I have an Acacia DLG, DLGs appear to be naturally slippery due to the high speed they reach during the launch and due to the weight they generally have a very small turn radius;

As you can see it goes quite well!

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't try it with your Nemesis!
